Speaking of New AM Radio Stations...

I noted a CP for AM 1530 in Orono, Maine and another for 750 in Hampden, Maine. Both are located in the Bangor market.

Any speculation as to the kind of programming or formats we'll see on these stations?

And there's that 1120 CP licensed to Richmond, Maine (just 20 miles north/inland of Bath. Sat there for 3 years, then recently got sold to someone who has set up stations around the USA. CP is either for 1,000 watts day/night or 10,000 watts day and maybe 500 watts night.

And isn't there a 1230 CP near Bangor too?

That would make 4 unbuilt AM CP's in Maine. -all north of the horizontal Lewiston-Bath line.

The 750.... 50,000 watts ... Why? A 5,000-watt signal will cover the Bangor market. 10 miles outside of Bangor, there is nothing but moose, foxes, deer and raccoons.

Many years ago there was a 1000 watt day timer at 1530 in Auburn, Me. It was Top 40 WPNO and later on Country and than Oldies WRXV....

LoL Way to keep that stereotype going.

1230 in Newport and 1240 in Ellsworth. I suspect that 1230 being a 1kw day and 690 watts at night will not be able to get an effective signal into the Bangor area. And the 1 kw from Ellsworth is likely to be pretty weak in the Bangor area.

what are the chances these pea-shooter AMs get on? With the economy as bad as it is, I doubt any ever see the light of day. I think the 750 is being hung up by the NIMBY's (I think the tower sit is a large array around the Glenburn/Bangor line) and 1530 is probably being hung up because of financial reasons, it's tower is somewhere above Brewer where 2 other standalone AMs are

As far as I know the applicant for 1530 has every intention of building. Financial considerations do not apply to that permittee nor do they apply to the applicant of the 750. In our case-the 1120-we have a construction schedule to adhere to that involves other permits and/or stations/and/or client permits and/or stations that we are committed to construct. Business is good.. I can tell you that at least one of the applicants is committed to a Hispanic targeted format because of constantly arriving Hispanics throughout the State.
