SPENCER HUGHES READS FROM CHAIRMAN KARL ROVE'S LITTLE RED BOOK

No real surprise but second stringer, Spencer Hughes, on WRKO Sunday is reading from Chairman Karl Rove's "Little Red Book" - Hurricane's Katrina is according to Hughes is all the black looters fault.

All this diversion will not work this time.

When one rants endlessly about how much they dislike a talk
show host yet continually listens to said host in hope of hearing
something they REALLY dislike.... Well, it makes one wonder
about a possible love gone bad.

But, I guess, in fairness it can be said about one who reads
posts whose content is a certainty. We all have our own
private hairshirts, it would seem.

You assume the parent poster would know what a hairshirt is. I bet Spencer knows it, however.

Re: Suspicious

I made an effort to see what Hughes was ranting about. Tuned out after a few minutes. He was predictable and therefore as far as I am concerned BORING.
I was just waiting for the Red Sox game to start.

Oops, back to attacking 'RKO. You should have tuned in to WMWM instead,
7 to 9 am. Bob "raccoonradio" Nelson was playing excerpts from last
week's Essex Music Festival (folk, blues, bluegrass). We followed this
with a 9 hour blues marathon hosted by "Sister Lisa" and "Jump Steady"
including more than a few New Orleans tunes.

I just hope the Jon Spencer Hughes Explosion (a tip of the hat if
you get that pun)* isn't filling in for Howie tomorrow.

*--rocker Jon Spencer and the Blues Explosion paired up with old
time blues guy R.L. Burnside in '96, including the album "A Ass Pocket
Of Whiskey" (sic). Burnside passed away the other day at 78.

Sounds like a radio equivalent of posting the same tirade again and again on a bulletin board? Good that you keep listening though even if the excuse er reasoning changes! :)

I like parklane's username. Park-Lane.
Makes me wonder where you got it from?
Where you parked, or driving in a lane?
And if so, which lane?

And when you're on the Jamaicaway, or the Fresh Pond parkway while listening to WBZ on your car radio, ponder this: Why do we park in a driveway but drive in a parkway, hm?

Please..enough is enough...

I am getting carpal tunnel with having to use my mouse to bypass
these posts.

Agreed!!
When all is said and done the most corrupt city in
America, New Orleans, winner of that award for decades
and the even more corrupt state capital of Louisiana,
whose governor's go to federal prison, will be seen as
criminally negligent for their stunning lack of action
on behalf of their citizery before, during and after
Hurricane Katrina.
You are correct, those very cheap, easy and sleazy
diversions like playing the race card will not work this time.

Not necessarily Les....I read somewhere that a very high number of Howard Stern and Dr. Laura listeners dislike both hosts very much, but they continue to listen. The draw is "what can they possibly say next" I can't stand Dr. Laura with a passion, but I would often listen to her, and find myself yelling at the radio LOL It does sound odd, but it's the car wreck theory: "I don't want to look, but I have to"

A better question is: how do you get "parklane" from "millenium", and how does "millenium" spring from "jayx"? Or maybe, why all the user name changes, banning? Think people won't know who this new user is who constantly slams talk radio hosts and changes the subject line whenever posting a reply?

Why do you continue to endure Spencer's show, if it's so predictable? There are what, roughly 50 other stations you may be able to pick up from the Boston metropolitan area? I hear a rumor that there are even other talk stations serving the market, including stations such as WBZ, WTKK, and liberal talk on WKOX/WXKS. That doesn't even count what's on public radio outlets!

And there are a myriad of other options, if you're in the mood for music.

No, you're apparently in the mood to listen to a show and host you despise, and bitch about it on these boards.

Anyone have a Firefox extension that will make parklane's messages vanish without showing up on the message list? I'm serious about this. I'm sick of his ranting and raving, and just not clicking on the message isn't enough...it doesn't avoid his inflammatory ALL CAPS subject headers, which can't be avoided. But Spencer's show CAN be avoided - simply do not tune to 680 AM when he is on the air. And if he's filling in other time slots, there's something called a "tuning control"...USE IT.

Before you point it out, I will perform full disclosure here, and note that Spencer is a very good friend, and former co-worker of mine in another market. I've never made a secret of that.

I've also mentioned that he and I may not see eye to eye on his show's content, or his own firmly held political views (which are real, and are not an act...he goes on about this stuff after the microphone is off, he believes what he says). But that doesn't stop him from being a good friend, and he doesn't pick his friends by their political persuasion or beliefs.

subject line change

The Moderators suggested recently that when we respond we change the subject line to follow the direction of the thread. If you have a complaint please take it up with the Moderator and don't make personal attacks. The Moderators frown on that as well.

I like fish

If only more fish listed to Boston radio. Fish have no opinion, no political slant. They just swim in their thank and make little bubbles with their mouths. Most importantly they never get too obsessive about anything. They just stay out of the way so the rest of us can live. Yup, fish are happy all the time.

Let's here it for fish!

Parklane's Indigestion, And How To Cure It

> spencer hughes is now and will always be a second stringer.
> he is just another run of the mill right wing nut hater. the

You seem to think that little shot A) upsets me or B) invalidates my message to you. You miss the point.

We could give a flying fig if Spencer was the greatest or worst host on talk radio. I like the guy personally (as a friend) and don't always agree with whatever he does on the air. I haven't heard him on the air at any length in about 3 years.

The problem is, once again, that you apparently are obsessed with him, his show, and feel the need to vent about it, instead of, well, turning elsewhere. It'd be just as off-putting if I did NOT know the host in question.

YOU MISS THE POINT.

In afternoons in this region, there's a buffoonish clown who hosts the only afternoon drive time talk show on a station in his top-30 market. The lack of substantive content on his show bothers me, and his personality is not nearly my cup of tea, but I DON'T LISTEN TO HIM. And even though he's basically the only option for talk radio in that part of the market in afternoon drive (we have a local host down here), I don't feel the need to crusade on his every breath.

For your information, here are, courtesy of the program schedules of various Boston market news/talk/sports radio stations, your other options on Sunday afternoon in Spencer's time slot:

WBZ/1030:
http://www.wtkk.com/programs.asp
1:00PM 4:00PM Handel On The Law with Bill Handel

Not straight ahead political talk, but Handel's usually good for entertainment on this show.

WEEI/850:
http://www.wkoxam.com/program_lineup.html
1 pm - 2 pm - Mother Jones
2 pm - 3 pm - “Politically Direct” w/ David Bender
3 pm - 5 pm (Rebroadcast) - “Ring of Fire” w/ Mike Papantonio & Robert Kennedy Jr.

Since you've made a few "right wing" comments on this thread, maybe "Boston's Progressive Talk" is more your speed, and would give you less indigestion between 1 and 4 PM. And it looks like the 2 PM show may even be local, as I've never heard of the guy...

That's just a start. If you continue to rant on about a talk show host who you feel compelled to listen to, but hate, I'll go through the music stations' and the public stations' schedules, as your radio appears to be lacking a properly working tuning control.
