Just saw an item in The Times Daily where the Spirit of Freedom festival which has been held in Florence for the last 35 years has been canceled for this this year because their sponsor Shoals Radio Group, a division of URBan Radio has pulled out. Wonder how well these guys are doing. I know they had to spend some money this year building a new transmitting facility for three of their properties WVNA, WLAY and WLAY FM. And WLAY AM lost its translator when the AM went silent. It's now low-power WSHF. Sad.

Sloss Fest -- in just three weeks -- up in Birmingham brings in the crowds & name bands. Fun fest.
Back on my day we paid nothing to $50 for a ticket to a music festival. Ticket prices these days seem inasne and old dudes like myself can't party for 12 hours straight anymore. Tickets rarely allow re-entry. I don't know how I did it as a kid!
The only music festival attractive to me now a days is ATM (All Tomorrows Parties). Alabama would make a nice host site for one for the ATM fest, but it doesn't fit their profile. .

I owned a vending company that did many of these festivals. Entry fees skyrocketed. The festivals costs increased and attendance decreased. We sold it. This generation isn't really into festivals.
I had forgotten about Sloss Fest in B'ham. I think it debuted after I moved out of state.
There's also a pretty big music festival at Pensacola Beach but I forget the name at the moment. I remember seeing the lineup and it seemed like it was 50 artists deep, a pretty major setup. DeLuna Fest… That is what it was called. Dunno if that's an annual thing or not.

DeLuna fest was cancelled after the Pearl Jam/Foo Fighters year. Pensacola likes its music festivals so some sort of downtown music fest will reappear in the next 2 years.
How big a deal is Ten Sixty Five Fest in Mobile? Can it be compared to Sloss?

ATM was a typo for ATP or All Tomorrows Parties. The concept was cool as heck using destination resorts with concert grounds with hotels/lodging on site as opposed to camp sites like Bonnaroo. All but a couple events were in Europe. The bands were curated by the headliner and the headliner usually played an album, start to finish, as their set. I knew they had financial problems but didn't know they shut down. I wouldn't be surprised to see the ATP fest reappear in a modified format kinda like what happened to Lollapalooza... maybe this time as a North American touring music fest?

10-65 doesn't seem to be very big, but it is free which is a nice feature. It's paid for by local businesses from what I understand.
I am pretty sure there's at least one small music festival in Mississippi, somewhere, ha ha. A lot of the events I remember from my time there were naturally blues-related, but were more like multiple nights of people performing in clubs and nothing outdoors except for one or two events. I think there was an event way up in the woods for Mississippi Fred McDowell up in Avalon one time, but the rest seem confined to night clubs.
