I should note that the late, great Warren Zevon was scheduled to be the music guest on the first Late Night, and the newspapers reflect this. For unknown reasons, his appearance was scrubbed, and he wouldn't end up appearing on the show until September 27th. He ended up being a frequent guest on both Late Night and the Late Show. Dave was a huge fan; he even guested on the song "Hit Somebody" on Warren's penultimate album, My Ride's Here.

Enjoy every sandwich.
