Sports Hub 98.5: From SNR to FSR (Fox Sports)

K. Vahey says on boston-radio-interest that WBZ-FM 98.5 is the new Boston home for Fox Sports radio
for nights and weekends starting Mon (the day ESPN starts on WEEI). No idea yet about what that will
mean for Sporting News Radio.

JT The Brick !!! Back on in Boston !!!! This Yankee fan rules !!!

Is SNR still on 1510 overnights? If so, that means that SNR will fade back into obscurity in Boston. Better than nothing, I suppose...

Someone on this board predicted that 1510 would expand prog talk into the overnights, etc., and on Boston Radio Watch when I brought up the fact that 1510 still had SNR, Mark S. said, "not for that much longer..."
Which means either the prog talk rumor is true, or...890 back on but with SNR? Stay tuned

Neither will happen...1510 will go with left wing talk in the overnights as early as next week. They are planning to have it in for Monday but it may not be until the end of the week. Santos announced some of the new shows I guess, no one I have ever heard before: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Save_progressive_radio_boston/message/6733

A former 890 employee told me the station will go Spanish. If that is the case, no SNR in Boston which is by no means a loss whatsoever...

This is definately going to strengthen WBZ-FM's ratings, Fox Sports Radio will bring in WEEI listeners and new listeners in general.

I think WWZN is going to drop Sporting News Radio, and 890 returns as a full time Sporting News Radio affiliate. 1400 is back on the air, maybe this is 890's chance to return.

>>Norman Goldman, Mike Malloy, Leslie Marshall
(from link above of save prog talk board)

Nor-man Gold-man (that's how he pronounces his name) was in for McPhee awhile back and has done
fill ins for Ed Schultz. Left leaning lawyer, I think. Just started in syndication. Malloy is kind of the
Michael Savage of the left--has made outrageous comments, kicked off syndicators/stations but has
a following. Marshall who may have done some shows in this area before is on WWKB 1520 at night I
believe.

Malloy said Cheney probably eats Jewish or Muslim babies. Coming soon to 1510..

Malloy said Cheney probably...
Just to note that Malloy was actually employed at power stations WLS,WSB back when that meant something. He was a good broadcaster, once.

I'm sorry JT has an outlet. ESPN at night will be much stronger than telephone calls anyway.

When does the switch happen, at 1 am? WBZ-FM went back to Sporting News Radio for the midnight hour
and right now as of 12:37 am, post World Series, WEEI has...Fox Sports Radio (Tom Looney)...?

Just before 1 am, Tom Looney (Fox Sports) said "we will be on 98.5 The Sports Hub next, new home after
13 years on WEEI". WEEI ran that and didn't bleep out the competitor's name...

...1 am, Fox's sportsflash ran on both 98.5 AND 850. Looks like JT's show will indeed be up next on 98.5
and perhaps 850 as well, or do they go to ESPN now?

1:06 am--HA! It's on WEEI too, and AGAIN 98.5 is mentioned! "We were formerly with WEEI and they treated us like gold...I'm thrilled to be on in Boston and Mike Thomas thank you...I'll be on their morning show...I love being on in Boston."

Interesting to see how that will play out in Bangor Maine. WEEI has their affiliates up here WAEI 97.1 FM and WABI AM 910, which have been having the Fox Sports feed at night or when the Sox played. WZON 103.1 FM and 620 AM, owned by Stephen King have had the ESPN shows for years. I'll have to listen tonight and see what WAEI plays.

WEEI-FM 103.7 is still carrying JT and Fox Sports. Is the ESPN deal only for 850 in Boston and not for the rest of the WEEI Radio network?

re: Malloy talking about Cheney eating Muslim and Jewish babies...

that was last week, actually... I subscribe to his podcast... also, when Norman Goldman was filling in for Ed Schultz, he described his political leanings as moderate. I'd say that's about accurate--moderate to liberal... Malloy's a complete flame-thrower. No question about that...

As I said, the equivalent of a Michael Savage. Descriptions of political leaning depend on who's doing the talking of course; the John McCain that left-wingers describe as being far right was actually picked by John Kerry to be his running mate, and John turned it down, and many conservatives call him a Republican in Name Only and
said they'd rather stay home than vote for him (they did). Alan Colmes--I enjoyed his old daytime show--
called his book "Red White And Liberal" IIRC but many on the left feel he's a squishy moderate. For all those on the left who call Bill O'Reilly far right, there are many on the right that think he's too far to the left. And so it goes.

As I've mentioned before there are hosts like Phil Hendrie, Dennis Miller, and Alan Nathan who try to stake out a kind of middle ground, and those on the extremes dismiss them for it. Hendrie is liberal on some issues and
endorsed Obama last year yet supported W and the war on terror. Miller's quote was that while he didn't
mind Larry marrying Steve, he would object to an Islamofascist firebombing their wedding. Nathan (heard
briefly on WNSH) called himself "the militant moderate" and said "we want the Republicans out of our
bedrooms, the Democrats out of our wallets, and both away from our First and Second Amendment rights"

Some people who are liberal on some issues, conservative others, prefer right-wing talk (though they don't
agree on everything) and enjoy putting down "moonbats", Hollywood, "the elite", etc. Others who aren't
straight down the middle on every issue would prefer left-wing talk and make fun of "neo-Cons",
"wing-nuts", "tea partiers", etc. Even Hendrie, whom many would consider to the right on most issues,
poo-pooed the "tea partiers".

I think ESPN has an outlet in West Warwick, RI. It's a relatively low powered signal around 1400, I think.

As far as I saw, ESPN in RI area are on both 1340am and 1450am.
Back in summer 2002, when I went to Newport, Ri, on my way there, when I was around Avon, Ma, I picked up 1340am, as well as in Brockton area. Back then they carried an 24/7 Classic Soul format from ABC Radio Networks.
As I got closer to RI, I changed it to 1450am, I picked that up good around Providence as well as in Newport same with 1340am in Newport, both came in well down there

According to Bostonradiowatch website, As far as ESPN on 103.7, it only mentioned 850am, they didn't mention the other WEEI stations, that's according to Bostonradiowatch website
