Sports Network Affiliation Likely in Flux in Columbia

With today's announcement that CBS and Cumulus Media are partnering to form CBS Sports Radio, it appears that in the coming months the sports network affilation scene will change.

Cumulus stated it intends on using CBS Sports on its O/O sports stations. That means Fox Sports will be leaving The Game. WZMJ, which currently is the ESPN affiliate, will be changing hands and will likely not continue as Sports.

It's anyone's guess at this point where ESPN and Fox Sports will end up.

I don't dispute that Cumulus said that, I just don't see that in the press release.

Doesn't Cumulus also distribute ESPN, though?

They may handle the technical distribution. I do not know about affiliation. The announcement today stated the CBS Sports would be clearing on 67 of their O and O's.

Currently, yes.

So will ESPN align with CC (can't see this, most likely Fox Sports)...or strike out on their own & create their own network?

Judging from the press release, WNKT will be picking up the CBS Sports radio programming and ditching Fox Sports on September 4th. In addition, apparently WYMB 920 AM Manning will simulcast WNKT.

I agree that Fox Sports Radio is horrible. Most of the lineup talent sounds like a bunch of guys playing beer pong in their parents' basement. Not good radio at all.
