Star 92.1 (WMYB) in Myrtle Beach is now stunting with Christmas music

Hopefully they keep this stunt till December 26th. Its genius. Im enjoying it. Have it flip to energy after the holidays.

So...first X-Mas music station of the year? They beat out WEZW NJ, surprisingly! They are always switching in mid-October to Christmas.

I predicted this change for Star 92.1 was coming since around last year, because ever since Alpha acqunited them, they have been leaning towards CHR/Top 40 than Hot AC. I also predicted that their future name would become Energy 92.1, like the other Alphase stations.

However, there are exceptions to the "Energy" Top 40 branding, such as Mix 100.3 in Lubbock, TX, 99.7 DJX in Louisville, KY, and Bob 93.3 in next door market, Eastern North Carolina (Greenville, Jacksonville, and New Bern a.k.a. Pepsi Town ;) ).

Also, crain, did you mean WBEB? They are the most well knowm Philly station that airs Christmas music. I will be shocked if this goes all the way until December.

I'm predicting that the Big '90s Weekends I've enjoyed will be killed, just like they were on Star 94 in Atlanta. I guess I just have to accept the fact that nothing I like is billable. (My favorite format is Active Rock. Need I say more?)

Really? So I guess people will have to start listening to The Tide and maybe even B. Wilmington has another AC on 103.7.

As for the name Energy, WKZQ was Energy 102 back in the 80s. Supposedly the format was Top 40, but it sure was an adult-leaning version of the format.

I'm just sorry I didn't get to hear what Star DID sound like before this. I don't think I can listen to Christmas music this early, as much as I would like to. Imagine if I had gone to the beach today without reading this. But the front stalled and it was going to rain more to the east. I just wasn't ready to take a chance.

No, Easy 93.1 in NJ always switches early to Christmas. The last few years it has been in October.

So if it does change to CHR as Energy it will go head to head with Mix 97.7 sure will be interesting to see what happens. Keep saying Thursday at 9am a early Christmas present is coming. Then 94.5 The Tide will have the AC format to itself.

It seems to be rhythmic leaning. I even heard some rap.

Now WKZQ sounds like a Top 40 station a lot of the time. Some of those songs would fit in perfectly but do Mix or this station actually play them? I know Star played some songs that would be considered rock.

And The Tide sounds pretty much like the ACs some people think might be Hot AC but aren't.

On a related note, I heard the names "Ace and TJ" on B93.5, and some music that wasn't exactly AC, at least in the morning.

I couldn't get my radio to work well enough in the motel room. I only picked up maybe half the stations.

Energy does seem a bit more rhythmic leaning than Mix 97.7 as 92.1 does need to be somewhat different, I can see Energy add more hip hop to compete. Since 92.1 flipped I noticed Mix 97.7 keeps saying the station that sounds like The Grand Strand and Myrtle Beach. Sure Mix 97.7 has been Myrtle Beach's Top 40 station since I can remember. This will be good to see as I'm sure everyone remember the Mix 97.7 and Hot 100 days.

As for The Tide they sound great, no way near sounding like a Hot AC by any means. Sound very close to how Y102.5 Charleston. Now if Star 92.1 didn't tweak so much and stayed AC in the past years they might still be a around.
