Please. Donna is a historian and she was a guest because of historical knowledge of the media.
 
Futuristic vision is a whole other discussion. Tried to move the discussion in that direction but the callers tended to direct the discussion.
Believe the FCC Commissioner, Ajit Pai, should convene a country wide conference on AM Radio to insure that it survives. AM radio is part of a free, passive, easily accessible communication system which if not by intent then by its mere existence must be retained and survive to inform and protect the country in times of national and local emergencies such a Harvey or September 11. Much like the Interstate Highway System that was proposed, designed and built by President Eisenhower in the early 1950's to provide coast to coast access and protection in times of emergency and crisis AM radio serves the same purpose. Factoid: Not good news. Many new cars are now being manufactured without an AM Radio. Have to make sure that is turned around. AM Radio is a valid method of communication and should be required in every automobile with every other safety device that is required in a car. Again,time for the FCC to step and preserve and protect the AM Frequency.

Smartphones can contain an FM chip but nothing for AM.
The FM chip if enabled can serve as a radio, may be handy in emergency but no AM chip or usable antenna etc. Not sure how widedpread the "FM only in cars" is but some things like clock radio are being made without AM. Hey you could pair your smartphone to it and play an AM station through TuneIn.
Younger people etc barely know about AM.Programmers are convinced other than the case with WBZ,etc, AM is a dead zone.Repository for foreign language, religion, sports networks like ESPN, maybe some talk.The day may come especially after the Ent-CBS merger where 1030's news talk moves to FM and 1030 flips to something else or gets sold.They could be a survivor but who knows?

If they feel the main focus is Boston or much of New England, the "103" spot on the dial could actually be on
103.3 instead.
As Donna said if the compelling programming is there, it could work but the bean counters have their say.
I wonder how many people never knew WJIB or WMRC existed till they found em via the FM translator?

I'd also like to see HD on AM discontinued so stations could restore their bandwidth to what it was pre-HD; i.e., better than cell-phone quality.

Think 'BZ's clock is too crowed which forces Dan to squeeze as much as he can into a segment. Glad they have lots of commercials but they should let the talk interrupt the commercials..... :)

I don't know what your problem is, but I am guessing that at some point Donna's considerable knowledge of radio proved you wrong on something and you can't stand having that happen.

Donna was a good consultant. I have direct knowledge of how she helped a number of stations.

As a teacher and writer, she is what I only wish we had more. There are so many "broadcasting" and "communications" instructors with no real broadcast experience who teach thing that are just wrong. Donna has radio (WMMS, for starters) and consulting experience that is very real.

You have offended and insulted one of the better people in our industry. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Commercial radio doesn't need nostalgia; it needs futuristic vision.

AM radio needs either a) an FM frequency or, b) an undertaker. There is no long-term "solution" or "vision" for AM.
