Now that summer is almost gone & there are soon to be 4 months left in 2006: I was wondering about changes at WGST, Dave-FM, 99X, and 96Rock.
Does anybody have any news, rumors, etc. about any changes in store for rest of 2006 or 2007 with these four stations?
Any changes at 96rock with new program director in charge?
Where is the so called new morning show for 99X?

I'll make a prediction that none of the stations listed will make format changes, but ONE station no one expects WILL change.

Did 96 Rock hire a PD? You gotta figure 99X will insert the new morning show before the Fall ratings start - right?

The 4 stations will be combined to produce an alternative, free-form News/Talk station that carries the Braves but can't get ratings or listeners. ;D

There are rumours that someone named Stoli will be taking over Dave-FM's dog of a morning show ;D

Could the new morning show start as early as next week? Yesterday Doug was in for Axel and Leslie and he said he was in today but they will be back tomorrow. Then today they were out again. Maybe they won't announce it in advance. Do you think Axel goes back to afternoons?

Clear Channel finally makes the long overdue move of taking the dumb and dumber duo of Chase and Grevey out of Atlanta, yet their appointed team of Del Core, Wheeler, Bloomquist, Kaplan etc. stays in place for the all important fall book. I guess San Antonio is happy with the all time lows put in by GST and 96 Rock in the August trend, the near fifty percent drop for Lite since the Xmas fluke and the continued fall of Viva. Not to mention a revenue picture that's even bleaker than the ratings.

If I had performance like this, I wouldn't make any changes either.

I've too been wondering what will happen on 99X when the new morning show comes along. It's been stated that they want to continue to use both Axel and Leslie in some onair capacity. I would think Axel will go back to afternoons- will that put Matt Jones back to 10pm - 2am (cutting Dekker's shift back to 7pm - 10pm and Doug's from 2am - 5:30am)? And what will happen with Leslie, sure she's still the PD, but will she be on the air on the weekends or replace someone else in a weekday slot? I'm sure Steve won't be touched, but I just hope they leave Dekker the hours he currently is.

No changes at WGST. We're happy with the sub one share performance of Hughes and Shaffer. We're thrilled Kimmer is losing to both sports stations and we're downright ecstatic about the 75% drop in revenue.

The new PD at 96Rock will probably be an internal rubber stamp. RGs will be gone soon to greener pastures. 99X new morning show will be a small market call-up from another Cumulus property. The upper management of CC will rearrange the deck chairs, but the stations will continue to underperform due to the weight of burdensome regulations and initiatives from Hogan who should be ousted by end of 2007. DAVE-FM will be a FREE-FM w/ O&A in a drivetime slot.

WGST will remain a loser and wont compete with anyone! Ugly signal there.
Wkls 96 will either stay the same, or try a stab at killing the RG's again, then a format lean towards newer rock mixed in with the 20 songs already in thier playlist,
Im sure the River is killing them. 99x, hmmmm, Don't really care about this station.
Seems alot of folks listen to this one, although I am not a new rock fan. Seems all new rock is filled with angist, and anger. Yuk on this station.

They are all good for nothing. Thank God we have XM and Sirius.
Atlanta is not the only market that sucks. It is basically all of the top 10, and then some.

I just got a Sirius subscription a few weeks ago because of the crappy stations that 96Rock & 99X have turned into. Both where good stations, but within this decade, they have lost whatever chemistry they had.

I totally agree, it is amazing how incredibly bad especially 99X has gotten. :p

It's like we liked 96 and 99 in the begining, but we grew up, and they left us behind, not growing with their original audience!

I totally agree.

Actually, I think the easiest way for WGST to make it is to go all infomercials. That way, no ratings, low expenses, high profit margin. ???

Changes are inevitable, like Lindsey Lohan partying and CurtisinPA being crazy.

Here is my expert take on the stations mentioned above:

WGST - Nothing will change; expect Kimmer's marital status from married to divorced. They make enough money on Rush to carry them for most of the day. Maybe Denny will go away and another Conservative talk-show will take its place, no one will notice.

Dave - I would love to see wholesale changes starting with Michelle Engles (PD) and working its way down to Barnes and Firfer. Dave has the potential to be the top rock station in the market but bad programming, bad musical selection and no street presence are their downfall. There are approximately 15,000 Widespread Panic fans and they have a radio station all to themselves, talk about narrow casting. Mara rocks and Margot seems like she knows her stuff, I feel that her hand is being forced to make bad decisions.

99X - Something has to change there too. Steve Craig just signed a new contract so he is safe, the rest need to polish up their reels. I applaud Leslie Fram for hanging onto the true aesthetic of Alternative but it's over and now I feel she is behind the curve. 99X is trying to woo 45-year-olds and 25-year-olds at the same time. I got news for you, I couldn't care less about AFI and the tattooed, slackers who feel like they are entitled to everything could care less about Radiohead.

96Rock - Why change anything? There morning show gets ratings, the music mix is pretty good and they carry the Braves which only hurts them at night when no one is listening. Sure, The River is beating them but that will fade once the 45-54 year-olds realize that they have heard the same 300 songs enough for 300 lifetimes.

Not at $75 a spot, the going rate for Rush these days. I hear their annual billing is off by two-thirds year to year
