Several years back while driving down I-35 from Kansas back to Dallas, I hit the scan button and landed on XERF. I heard a mid-tempo song with a heavy steel guitar riff, with a strong country influence but otherwise sounding much like the rest of the genre of music on XERF.
I haven't thought about that until tonight. While surfing through the area digital TV channels, I landed on KATA 50-1 which airs Tr3s (formerly MTV Tr3s). As luck would have it, I missed the start of the music video (where the song ID is shown) but caught the music about midway through. Much like the XERF episode, this was another strongly country-influenced song but very up-tempo. The musicians were wearing cowboy hats and, if not for the language, it would have fit into a CMT music video.
Unless I'm mistaken, Regional Mexican is a catchall name for a variety of music styles. Right or wrong?
And to the point of this post, to what extend does (or has) country influenced music from Mexico? (I realize that a lot of musical styles have influenced country -- Streets of Bakersfield being a top-of-mind example).
