STEVE FITZ DIES, CAPITAL REGION TALK SHOW PIONEER

Steve Fitz, who over the years was a talk show host on the former WSNY 1240, Schenectady, the former WQBK-AM 1300 Rennselaer, WGY 810 Schenectady and on WMHT-TV 17 died sunday at the age of 84. Up until wednesday , he appeared 4 days a week with commentary on WVTL-1570 Amsterdam with another long time area talk show host, Bob Cudmore.

Steve was a big kid at heart. Loved to play practical jokes on people like the late Harry Downey and to cause trouble by spreading rumors in the WGY newsroom. He loved movies, traveling around the world with groups that his wife, Peggy organized, and attending performances of the orchestra at SPAC. Great on-air presence who transcended age barriers. Younger listeners related to him as easily as members of his own generation. And, he was a consummate voiceover specialist who connected with a listener one-on-one.
