Steve Hegwood named OM at Radio One Atlanta

Here's the press release. I'm surprised given the fact there were four stations here in Atlanta they didn't already have an OM.

Radio One Atlanta is pleased to announce Steve Hegwood as the new Operation's Manager. Steve is currently Radio One's Regional Program Director, serves as the Program Director for WKYS, Washington, D.C. and he is also a consultant to the programming department for WHTA.

The Operations Manager position was created to utilize Steve's many years of programming experience. He will serve as Program Director for WHTA, Hot 107.9 as well as oversee the programming departments of WJZZ, WAMJ and WPZE. Steve will focus on maximizing audience market share for the entire cluster of radio stations by developing the talent and utilizing all of the research resources available to the market.

Market Manager, Wayne K. Brown was very excited about this move. He said, “After an extensive search both inside and outside the company, I realized the best talent to lead our programming efforts was already working with the station and in the company”.

Hegwood brings over 25 years experience to this newly created position as Operations Manager. Steve was formerly the Vice President of Programming at Radio One where he was involved with programming in all of the Radio One markets, he recruited Program Directors and was instrumental with developing The Russ Parr Morning Show/Radio One Syndication relationship. Steve was also a Program Director in other major markets such as Detroit and Houston. In addition to Steve's programming experience, he owned and operated his own broadcasting group, On Top Communications for 5 years.

Hegwood will assume his new role late November, early December.

I saw this one coming. It'll be interesting to see what changes he makes with HOT 107.9 because he's known for coming in and clearing house. Lets not forget about the staff of On Top Communications that he left hanging in Albany,GA, Jackson,MS, Norfolk,VA and New Orleans,LA.

Hopefully he'll be smart enough to avoid copyright infringment lawsuits, too.
