The Penguins have hired Upper St. Clair native Steve Mears, recently with the NHL Network, to replace Paul Steigerwald as their TV play-by-play voice. He will join Bob Errey in the booth next season.
Steigy will apparently hang around to contribute to the pre-and-post game shows.
Mears had previously done radio play-by-play for the NY Islanders (until they got too cheap and decided to simulcast). He did pre-and-post game work for the Pens previously, and I think they have long had him on their radar as their next voice.
I am surprised that he's replacing Steigy and not Lange though. In recent appearances (particularly at last year's Stanley Cup parade) Lange looked to be not in good health.
