Still no full time ESPN Radio for Tampa Bay

Still kind of not much for Tampa Bay's new home for full time ESPN Radio. Still WDAE does do ESPN Radio overnights but not during the day. When u think WDAE and WNHZ will make the flip to fulltime ESPN Radio for Tampa Bay? Before we get into that we know that WWBA and WHNZ are both Brokered time radio. I think when clear channel radio make the swtich to ESPN Radio on WDAE 620 then move FOX Sports Radio to WHNZ 1250. The question is when will they will do that since we allready know were alot of ESPN Radio fans in Tampa Bay area. Since WHBO moves to NBC Sports Radio.

Louis, it simply isn't worth paying the big bucks to air ESPN 24/7 in this market. You can hear all the programming on your computer, smartphone, ipad and tabliet. Thats why Genesis dropped it.

When 1250 WHNZ stops printing money from schlepping snake oil, then and only then will CC even consider flipping.

Who dropped who is open to question....

ESPN pays CC for clearance in some other markets. If they do that with 1250 will carry it. I think the full answer will only be known in January when CBS debuts their new national programming, and 620 loses Jim Rome to 1010.

As far as 620 losing Rome, I have a feeling they will be having a live and local DJ, firstly because of the push 98.7 is making on them, and second, I recall over the summer, when Rome took his 2 week July vacation, instead of 620 airing Rome's various sub-hosts, they had several different local guys doing what I feel is a tryout for a show on 620. They had Ronnie Nighttrain Lane, Tom Krasnicki, and maybe one or two others. But those two I mentioned seemed to have the upper hand. I hear Kras now, doing coverage of the Bucs at 1 Buc Place.... I don't think they are paying him what he gets to do just that, I think they are squatting on him until he gets his own show starting in January.

Or I could be full of it.

I'm pretty sure Genesis dropped them, or at least wasn't in a hurry to re sign them because of the cost and the many other ways you could listen to and watch The WorldWide Leader.

Does ESPN pay CC in other markets where CC doesn't have a full time sports talker? I'd hate for my boss to take money from a network to run opposite my show, especially if I'm a mid morning team who is almost phoning it in, and the mid morning network host might just take me down a point or two.

Seriously, I heard a Ron and Ian spot last week regarding diamonds. They just flew through it like they were late for an appointment, lol. Guys, I know you've been doing this for awhile, especially you Ron. Diamonds are a huge investment for the income range of most of your listeners, and its a big deal. Try making it sound a little more passionate that stuffing a fiver in the thong of the number 6 girl at the club, ok?

As for Van Smack..and admittedly the G and R tunes are starting...to....get....old....Maybe limit it to the opener and try something else...When Rome goes to the abyss that is 1010, perhaps the Tampa Bay Times can find another columnist or one of their bloggers to fill the time.

In Pittsburgh, I've been told that ESPN is paying CC to carry Mike & Mike and the evening/overnight programming. ESPN had an O&O here that they gave up on and flipped to Radio Disney when CBS hit with an FM sports talker. CC had been a Fox Sports affiliate.

I would not be surprised if 620 ended up with Mike & Mike mornings and the writers moved to noon-3; or given Cowerd's past connection with the market, they left the writers on mornings, took Colin's show 10-noon or 10-1, and moved Ron and Ian to Rome's slot.

Hmm. Interesting and a possibility. The Gods at the Times though may not like having their writers on opposite each other.

ah, you might be on to something. I remember them doing that.

You didn't mention Bobby Fenton though. He's on weekends over there and he's better than anything they've got.

My bet is they won't be on full time due to the terms. They did pick up an excellent signal in Orlando on WDBO 580 though, so we will see.

Thats true, if I were a betting man, the 3 of them (Fenton, Kras, and Lane) are duking it out for the soon to be open slot. Or MAYBE...

MAYBE

620 pairs a team to go against the Gary and Commish show. Not an either/or proposition as far as kras/lane/fenton, maybe pair the best 2 of them as far as chemistry and the "loser' (hate to use that term) becomes the new Whitney Johnson. 620 retains the best remaining local talent, and we see what happens....
