The main reason is that there is A LOT LESS advertising dollars in Stockton compared to Modesto, and even Merced. Who wants to target less money?
However, you should be pleased to hear that KUYL has changed its call letters to KWSX to simulcast CC's News/Talker out of Modesto, KFIV. The lame part of it is that since Modesto's station is K-Five, the Stockton one will be K-Six. Absolutely lame if you ask me.
I think the main reason for this change is because earlier this year KFIV lost it's affiliation with local sports teams (from UOP, etc.) to Citadel's KESP/Modesto and San Joaquin's KSTN-A/Stockton. These local sports are a GREAT source of revenue, and help localize a station. I wouldn't be surprised if this change leads them to fighting for those sports teams back next year because "we are now on in Stockton and Modesto and we're just one station, rather than dealing with two."
Just my input and opinion.
