Strange new promos on WTQR-FM-D.J.`s given a month off!! "New WTQR" Coming soon

What in the world is going on at Country WQTR-FM 104? Tonight, I heard a promo on the ststion saying ALL of the D.j.`s were being given a month "off" and new WTQR-FM would be coming soon!!!??? Is a FORMAT CHANGE in the works??? WTQR-FM has been decaying for quite some time!! Any insight into what in the hell is going on over there??? Thanks!

No format change still will be Country. New PD, new playlist, new logo and possibly the same dj’s.

Thanks for the insight!! Well, WTQR-FM can change the DJ`s, Logo, and even the playlist around but it will all be in vain if it STILL sounds canned, generic and bland and automated. If they are wise, they will take WTQR back to being much more LIVE and local and community driven. They need to add live news and weather again along with detailed live traffic like they used to. And yes, the most important thing that is missing at WTQR right now is LIVE, on-air INTERACTION with the listeners!!!! They need to put them on-air more often giving requests, opinions about local topics, etc. They also need to go back to having good LOCAL giveaways with LOCAL winners!! Take WTQR back to where it was when it was a LOCAL-GEARED radio ststion. Right now, it is a canned mess!!!

oldest radio trick in the world..Its to get people to think something will change but it won,t..That station once had a 15.2 with Aunt Eloise ,,now roper the groper takes it to a all time low 4.1 the WOLF is eating there lunch and dinner and he gets named PD????WHAT ARE THEY SMOKING OVER THERE????......The month off trick 23546...First used by Marconi in 1912...The listner is alot smarter than that.In the words of MR T..I PITTY THE FOOLS

I don't know about this... sounds like what the old WTRG did the summer before CC axed the station. They were talking about "signing off"... but it turned out to be a promo for some contest. A few months later... the station did go away, evolving into what is today "100.7 The River"...

The decline/decay of WTQR is what CC deserves after killing off heritage a few years. This is the ghost of WFMX that's hurting WTQR. Should've left WFMX alone (or sold it) and WTQR would've done just fine. Do I sound like a bitter old WFMX fan? Of course not...

The NEW TQR should start alot of folks looking for a job...When you say look for the new comming soon...Most likely the old will not return...I once heard a cc guy joking about how they would blow up stations and laughed about the tricks they did to try and hurt there air talent.All in the name of change..Hes out of a job now...Radio once let the air talent and there numbers rule..Today they are to many bannas at the top playing radio with i pod and laptop..TQR is the prefect exsample of letting the no talents ,,tell the talents what to do..Its bad radio..Its like letting Congress tell the the Army how to win a fight yet they are not willing to face the bullets themselfs..Too much overhead empty suits and not enough of hiring the best talent and leaving them alone.So they were number one for over 30 years and some sales guy or conslutant says...We can do better..lets dump our money makers and will be better..Change is not a good thing when your on top...Change is what they need badly know..I would look to whoever took away that number 1 spot they had 3 years ago and change him or her first..Thats there problem..The no talent empty suit that started there downward trend ......

@berlin... the WTRG "Sign Off" stunt was the idea of the OM (RVPP) at the time. Horrible idea that backfired. Station was flipped not due to poor ratings but lack of revenue. In fact, WTRG was beating WRDU in many male demos. WTRG was #2 P35-64 and #1 P45-54, #1 AM drive M25-54 (only positive to having JB&B in mornings) . *Oldies NOT a 25-54 format* Including the LSM, WTRG had just four sales people. Pathetic in market 43. Eventually 6-8 oldies station were flipped in the SE by then SVPP Marc Chase. He admitted to me he "doesn't get the oldies format" and said "it doesn't have legs". Well... now with PPM we all know different. Oldies is back, big. And not just as classic hits either. Even CC has put oldies back into positioners in Seattle (KJR) and St. Louis (KLOU). Seattle has two oldies/classic hits stations and Chicago too has a battle with WLS-FM and WJMK.

I agree that the Oldies format is coming back big!! We need a high-powered Oldies ststion back in the Piedmont Triad!!! WLXN is good, but very low-powered. If they do kill WTQR, Oldies would be a good choice, if they have a large playlist. Bring back the WBIG call letters to the Piedmont!!

Since the majority of WTQR's signal penetrates through the foothills, I still believe Country is their best bet with that being the dominant favorite of most in the upper Piedmont. They just need to dump the washed out version. I recall WBIG but it never had the giant cache that WTQR has, or at least had for decades. I would like to see Oldies again on a large Triad Station as well (and in Charlotte), but do not think WTQR is the station to kill for it.

It would be so nice to have a great radio station that grown up's could turn to having fun on a Sat or Sun afternoon on the lake at Lake Norman. Hummmmm

Radio needs a good old TOP 40TY STATION..The best of all music..It was a pretty darn good format before and there are people in this old world who love a good old buffet...Make sure the buffet has plenty of local produce and goods too...If you forget who took you to the dance,,,you,ll will be looking for a ride home....oh yes.(.Never hire people who never had a number one radio show to tell those who have HOW...Thats like asking your Grandma to be opeing act at Strip Club).....TOBY YOUNG 1983.... ;D..Thats somthing I learned from him..Les Tivers

Hey I loove variety as musch as the next girl, but when I hear "Una Paloma Blanka" follwoed by "the revolution will not be televised", I'm like "Whooooa! No Waaaay!" I hear from a good source that TQR will come back as country oldies. Hank Sr, Little Jimmy Dickens, Eddie Arnold, Ferlin Husky, the Hoosier Hot shots, Moon Mullican, Fiddlin' John Carson, Uncle Dave Macon and Skeeter Davis. I'm convinced that this radio market is unlike any other across the country. No consultant I've ever talked to can figure out how Simon does as well as it does, or how Two Guys Named Chris kills in the morning. If you listen to that morning show, they literally break every rule of radio, according to a consultant, yet they still reign supreme. I must say, I rather enjoy it too. I've never been fond of consultants. What works in NYC will not always work anywhere else.

WBRF is doing some sort of "oldies" but it is a far cry from "Classic Country" and certainly not a treat to WTQR

Consultants! Hah! I think they're responsible for the vast wasteland that is radio today. Simon thrives because 1) They have a good morning show and 2) They play good music. Do I like everything I hear there? No! But, staying with them is easier than punching in something else that I know I'm not going to like. Rock 92 survives because they're full of personality and whether you like them or not, you know them. I'd rather listen to someone I feel like I know than a talking "announcer".

I really don't think WTQR will be very different when the personalities return. It would be a risk for them to go Classic Country, but who knows. If it was done well on that big signal it might be a winner. WBRF just doesn't cover the eastern part of the Triad very well and they're still a Virginia station. But all in all I think there will just be some music adjustments and maybe some moving around of the personalities on WTQR and that's about it. The stunt may attract some interest from people they lost and they can hope to woo them back. Maybe this was a way for Clear Channel to not pay the personalities for a while?
