"Summary of Field Test Results of Digital Radio Trial"

Of course it's a link to someone else's words. Nobody would believe that PocketRadio had actually spent any time with an HD Radio, so he'd know what the heck he was talking about.

...a report, I might add, that has zero to do with HD. This is an Australian MP2 vs. AAC and VHF vs. L-band road test.

I dunno what the purpose of him even posting this is. It makes no comparison to analogue radio services in Sydney, where the testing occurred; it also shows that AAC, while more error prone in weak signal areas, is actually more robust and offers fewer dropouts than the MP2 subchannels.

The big advantage of America NOT going digital years ago is that we have the benefit of a much more efficient, better sounding codec...hdc, based upon aac+. DAB has been very popular in the UK (more digital radios are now being sold than analog, but a significant margin), but as they try to squeeze more stations into the available bandwidth, audio is suffering (with the mp2 codec). MP2 sounds AWFUL at bitrates much below 128kbps, but HDC can sound quite lovely at far lower bitrates.

Much of the world had digital radio before us. OURS SOUNDS BETTER! Japan had HDTV years before us. Their signal is analog, and noise-prone. Ours is rock-solid digital, and capable of stunning quality. Sometimes it's better not to go first.

"Sometimes it's better not to go first"

And I've learned over time that it all depends who's going before you. Sorry I couldn't help myself. Back to the discussion.
