I check and found information on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WBLS were it says:

Starting on May 2008, WBLS will broadcast a weekly Smooth Jazz program, "Sunday Night Smooth Jazz", every Sunday at 7PM. This programming move came after WQCD, New York City's Smooth Jazz station, flipped formats back in February 5.

Good. Let's hope this starts popping up all over the country. ACs and Urban sdoing well-crafted local shows again. The time is right to have contemporary jazz as a nice weekend alternative.

Yes! Because these shows that are in so-called obscure dayparts are too marginal for consultants to mess with so if the show host remembers to mix the music for the listeners rather than being self indulgent you can not only build a following, you cam make them aware of the music and the artists and create a tasty little cash cow for the sales dept. I just pitched one to two A/Cs here. Prayers, affirmations and downright begging to whatever higher power you believe in (or just thin air if you don't believe in any) would be much appreciated.

A specialty show can play more real smooth jazz in 4 hours than an SJ Network affiliate plays in a whole week.

100 percent agree. i fell in love with one such show the other week when i was hanging out in Kutztown, Pennsylvania for the night and was listening to Kutztown University Radio. they run what appears to be a syndicated smooth jazz show saturday nights from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. called "adventures in contemporary jazz." from the looks of the show's website (www.jazzadventures.com) it looks like they're only on about 8 tiny stations, including internet and cable only type stations. more stations should pick up that show. it is excellent. check it out if you can.
