SUNNY 102 OUT OF BIZ. WSEN IN LIKE FLYNN.

I don't know where RomeToupee is, but I'd say that would be a pretty bad idea.

Galaxy's in a good position by owning both Sunny 102 and Mix 102.5. As soon as I heard Galaxy was buying the Utica-Rome CC cluster in 2007, I figured it would be a matter of time until they simulcast, or at least share the same jocks. And for the most part, they now do share the same jocks. Both formats are similar to each other, so it's an easy solution and it makes good sense.

The idea of Galaxy ditching Sunny 102 for an oldies station just doesn't excite me.
I realize Sunny's ratings may not be "fantastic" but neither is oldies. If they're going to blow out Sunny, they better do it with something that'll actually catch people -- like turning Sunny into a county station, or buying WSEN-FM to put country on there instead.

Hello Bob....I also agree with your comments above. My only thought was that no matter what Sunny ever attempts to do, they might have a difficult time because of their 6000 watt status. It sure doesn't reach that far or penetrate many office locations. At least WSEN has 25,000 watts.

In the Utica market anyway, every station that has a strong signal does OK, even if they shouldn't be doing that well, while a couple of stations that might not sound too bad, never seem to make an impact because of their weaker signal of 6,000 watts.

A perfect example of this will occur in the very near future when WXUR 92.7 "THE DRIVE" increases their power from 6000 watts to 25,000 watts from a new tower on top of the WKTV tower on Smith Hill. Right now, WXUR is at the bottom of the heap with no one listening to it. Even Bill Keeler's show is barely a blip on the map and Don Imus in the morning only has a few men over 60. Basically, no one knows the station is even on the air. I like Keeler, have done business with him before and think he is a great promotor. So, I am curious to see if the power increase puts the station over the top or not.

LEVINE DUMPING SUNNY FOR WSEN. WHAT SAY YOU ROMETOUPEE?
Board rumor or fact? Does Buckley plan to exit Syracuse, a market where they've been able to make some money despite being short-sticked?

Okay. Well, if it really is a fact, then, tell me this. According to your story, Galaxy will pick up WSEN. What about WFBL?

I think this is a rumor.

it is a fact that Buckly wants out of syr. Not sure if Galaxy will be the buyer.

Not a good time to be selling radio stations. Buckley may want out, but there aren't many others out there who want in right now.

Stranger things have happened, but I'm going to guess Galaxy won't bite on this one because they're probably still paying off the purchase of the former CC Utica-Rome cluster. Even if they aren't, budgets are still slim anywhere you go. Doesn't matter how great a radio station is; everyone's feeling the pinch. And Galaxy, as a relatively small company, likely has less "spending money" for station acquisitions than anyone else. Not to mention, would buying WSEN/WFBL put Galaxy over the ownership limit? Then they'd have to pick a station to sell, and find a buyer for that station. Not worth the trouble in the current climate.

Would be shocked if Ed gave up K-Rock or TK, and as I mentioned earlier, getting rid of Sunny isn't a very strategic move either. Even though the jocks on Sunny could easily transition into an oldies format (seems like half of Sunny's playlist is already oldies), I think they're better off sticking with AC on 102.1. Maybe trim down the oldies a little bit, and increase the outside promotion. With local and mostly-live jocks through the day, it's a wonder Sunny isn't kicking the crap out of Y94... likely just a matter of music selection and differing transmitter strengths.

If only it were that simple.

Hello Bob and Element...My only questions with your posting Bob would be:...Don't you think TK or Sunny would do so much better if they had WSEN's 25,000 watt signal. I just can't imagine Sunny or TK could ever be number 1 or 2 in the market with just 6,000 watts. Even if they had the best music and programming and world famous on air people, I still have reservations as to high they could climb the ratings ladder when they're power is so darn low.

On the other hand, considering Y94 has 100,000 watts, they aren't setting any records these days for listenership. Just my opinion, but they seem to be a shell of what they used to be. They sound very boring to me.

What do you think?

They need a PD for Sunny but are waiting to fill the position. They are smart enough to know that a station needs to be managed to keep it focused and on track. I think they are waiting to see how the station does with recent music changes and if it shows promise then they will install a PD. It wouldn't be good business to bring some one in and then let them go a few months later because the station tanks after their last ditch efforts to breath life into that freq! The downside to the current situation, the current OM is the PD, for now, As well as PD every other property in Syracuse and Utica... which is way too much for one person and she can't focus on the prize!
