I know it's difficult to sell Adult Standards but this makes no sense. Portland may be the market with the MOST talk stations in America! 620 KPOJ, 750/101.1 KXL, 860 KPAM, 970 KXFD, 1190 KEX, 1360 KUIK and now 1550 as well? Plus KOPB-FM 91.5 running the NPR talk and news line up, and 1430 KYKN Keizer which makes the Portland ratings.
At least KKOV had a format all to itself. And with FM Oldies KLTH at #4, maybe it would have been wiser to go to 50s/60s Oldies. Or maybe Very Soft AC and Oldies similar to WFEZ Miami and WDUV Tampa.
By the way, in all the large markets Salem runs its own line up of talk hosts, there isn't a single Salem talk station that gets a one share. Not NYC, not LA, not Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Detroit, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Minneapolis, San Diego. In most cases, the station gets a .4 or .5. And it was chased out of Boston and Miami, where those stations switched to Spanish Religion and in San Francisco and Seattle where Salem converted them to Paid Business Talk stations.
If Salem doesn't have confidence in its own line up of conservative talkers, why should Pamplin, in a relatively liberal market?
