As the Chron says, Howard's full time job is in the HISD TV department. Sadly, that probably won't be the case by this time next week.I'm all for weeding out teachers who use drugs, but going after people in non-teaching positions is going a bit too far, IMO.

I've known Howard since we worked together on video projects at the old City of Houston Municipal Channel back in the early 90s. He's a great guy who shoulda had the good sense to leave his grass at home, and he doesn't deserve what's about to happen to him. I hope he finds a new gig soon. Best of luck Howard.

I don't feel sorry for him. Anyone dumb enough to actually do drugs deserves to be caught.

I do that all the time. It makes radio funn and gives people something to talk about.
For the record, I have know Howard for well over 20 years, We worked together at the old 1230 KNUZ on the air. Not a thing in the world to say bad. Now radio stories. I have many wild radio stories.

Why is it that the whole "Innocent until proven guilty" thing is tossed aside by everyone? It seems that the only time people care about it is when they're accused of something. Howard is innocent until proven guilty, leave him alone until otherwise. Then, when all is said and done... say whatever you want.
 
Thanks for the support. There are circumstances that were not explored by the news media. Let's find out all of the details before conclusion. It's not as bad as it looks. The real truth of what happened will sound like a whale of a fish story and honestly if someone told me that story I would roll my eyes and say yea sure.
Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.

During this my phone has not stopped ringing with folks I haven't heard from in years. If nothing else, it's been a kind of reunion. I have known and even trained many radio folks in Houston. It's a good radio family.

I'm sorry, but unless he is violating the social contract theory (as written by John Locke) - this shouldn't even be a crime. No one's elses rights were violated.

I am willing to sign an affidavit stating that the item(s) in question were merely props for the anti-drug video being produced for the ongoing education of our school aged members of society if you need.

We'll need a Don LaFontaine sound alike for the trailer. Would prefer to have the original but as we all know 2008 wasn't a good year for him either.

By the way I am just guessing on the reefer thing

Howard, if it's any consolation to you, we had dinner over the weekend with some friends who work at HISD/IT. They were talking about the incident and saying that you were known and respected for taking a nearly-zero budget and brilliantly cobbling together the television department over the years that you were there. Folks in the building who tend to such things are a little bewildered, yet, trying to figure out how to run your McGyver-style gear. Suffice it to say, nobody's pleased that you're gone or that it happened in this manner. Our friends asked me to wish you the best.

I've worked alongside you before and I'd never doubt working alongside you still and/or again. You've always been professional in our joint radio ventures and, as I've seen it, you've always had the heart of HISD and its students in the forefront of your mind. I simply cannot fathom that someone who has always been as professional as you are could be guilty of these accusations. There has to be more to the story or a huge mistake of some sorts. I just can't see you doing this --- sorry --- not in the manner that is being reported or in any other manner that was not justified.

You've always been the consumate friend to me and have supported me through every bump that life has thrown my way. Now, I will return the favor. Keep your chin up and please keep in touch. I dropped you a personal e-mail, an hour or two ago, but felt I'd voice my support here, as well. My thoughts are with you, friend. Right or wrong, innocent or guilty, that's what you are.... my friend.

Now, get good legal representation and burn these accusations. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
