Surprising Breaking News out of Stockton! Well I'll Be!

Alright....

Digging through my garage, doing some spring cleaning, I come across a duffel bag that I used to put all of station shirts from where I worked in.

I find my Young Country K-Bear 104.3 shirt, my KMIX Country 100.9 shirt, my Kat Country shirt, my 92.3 KRST shirt (ABQ), my old logo B93.1 shirt (from when I did mornings there), and at the bottom of the back was an old faded black t-shirt....

I pick it up...on the front, the words "Levi's Legendary" in bright green.....in the upper right corner, there were a "C" and a "H"..it was what was left of the name "Chris" in white iron on letters.

And on the back.....an old faded KSTN logo over the 1420 AM and under that...."The Mystery Store" sponsership.

I totally forgot about that shirt. I will have to take a pic and post when I can.

Does anyone know the latest on the KSTN sale? KSTN still advertises as "Locally Owned And Operated since 1949" in the PENNYSAVER newspaper.

The LaRues San Joaquin Broadcasting Co.'s KSTN-AM and FM have been sold to Independence Media Holdings of Dallas, TX. for $24.25 Million. Who would have thought it would happen? Changes, Changes, Changes...What's next for the two stations format wise?
Wow, almost two months later and still nothing reported in the local paper, THE RECORD about the KSTN sale. Go Figure? Also by the way, according to the FORBES website, STOCKTON,CA ranks as #2 in the TOP 5 MOST MISERABLE CITIES IN THE U.S. The only California city to make it to the list. Yes, Stockton is worst than NEW YORK,NY (which ranked as #4). Only DETROIT,MI is worst than Stockton as #1!

Newsperson responds:

That's becasue KSTN is still locally owned and operated and it will stay that way until it is transfered.

There is no LMA in place and no plans for an LMA. Robert LaRue will operate KSTN up until the closing.

Yes the buyers have been very quite and secretive lately. It hasn't been approved yet and they will have some time they can take after approval until they close on the purchase.

Have they leased any new studios?

It's been awhile since the news...

So what's the haps on the KSTN "sale"? ??? ???

I checked the Stockton Record's website archive, and found nothing about the (potential)
sale of the station(s)...verrrrrrrrr-ry interesting!:

Both stations sound relatively the same as they did in March, last I checked...
To quote the Seattle Mariners' broadcaster Dave Niehaus, "MY, OH, MY!"

I haven't seen anything about it anywhere else lately (but I ain't been looking to hard), but the sale of KSTN AM & FM by the LaRue family to Independence Media is officially off.

...And to my great friend from KSTN who let me know this today, you're right. It did only take me about two hours to go blab it somewhere!
