T-Mobile buying majority of UScellular

UScellular had been exploring “strategic alternatives” and this deal was expected.

As an aside, UScelluar was the only major carrier that as far as I'm aware hasn't announced a shutdown of their 2G and 3G networks, as the Big Three (in no particular order, AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile) have.

I kind of suspected that it was because of weak financials (upgrading equipment to support 4/5G costs lots of money, I'd imagine), and this proves it.

I had US Cellular in East Tennessee. They bragged about their excellent coverage because is a "home" market. Indeed, locally they were fine. Out of the area, whatever they were roaming on was a disaster with little data coverage, even in cities. We were in Indiana trying to find alternate routes around a bunch of construction, and there was no data to be found. When it was time for new phones, we went with Verizon. Much better.
