T102/Pottsville, PA... kind of like a "Jack-FM"

Re: T102/Pottsville, PA... kind of like a \

Then what is the closest station you'd define as "good" if you dislike T102 so much?

Re: T102/Pottsville, PA... kind of like a \

I think that Y102 is a good station, 97 BHT is good, hell even a relgious station would sound better that T102

Re: T102/Pottsville, PA... kind of like a \

Their only true competition is Magic in Tamaqua. They are basically a Mainstream A/C that plays a wide variety of music. I'd dump the polka show on Sunday but they probably make some money off of it. And since both T and Magic do HS Sports, at least Magic has taken the steps to make their broadcast sound much cleaner from an audio standpoint. T just uses a phone line. If you're going to do HS sports, at least invest in the equipment to make it sound decent.

I remember BHT, years ago as Hot 97, a pretty musically aggressive CHR. Fun station. But I appreciate T102's music variety and local flavor and I think it must be a fun station to jock at.

Re: T102/Pottsville, PA... kind of like a \

I don't know that you could put T-102 and Magic in the same Genre, hitting 2 totally diffrent demos...the truth of the matter is if you want to hear the music you like you are stuck with T-102. With a little work it could be a powerhouse, but hey what do I know, appreatly people in Pottsville like the Marshall Tucker Band and Alan Jackson with their Usher and Beyonce...and 45 minutes of commercials...

Anyone hear the break on Monday's morning show about Courtney Love's New Years resolutions? I did not hear the bit, a co-worker of mine told me about it. Here's a micro-sample of what they're all about. Going over a list of Courtney's resolutions, the anchor (I won't mention names) says, "Courtney Love wants to start "High PO Therapy" (spelled as he said it). The co-host, who's IQ appears to be about 5 points higher says, "I think you mean "Hip NO Therapy" (also spelled as prounounced). At which time the first guy mutters, "Oh is that how you say that?" and then gets real quiet and wraps up the break. It wasn't meant to be funny. Now, everyone makes mistakes and it's not a crime to not know how to pronounce words. But it is a crime to not pre-read your material, not to ask someone beforehand, and OMG imagine, not using the material. Is THIS what you expect from your morning show host? If you're working mornings and you've been at it for 15 years or more, you should know these things. This is exactly what I'm talking about when I criticize those in charge at that station and their unwillingness to make the station sound better. This doesn't cost any money, you don't need to hire a consultant for it. You just need a person with the knowledge, (which they do have...just not in morning drive) a willingness to teach, (don't have), and jocks who will listen (half of which they don't have).
BTW, alternatives to the mighty T are much more extensive, and include watching paint dry and having your fingernails pulled with pliers among others.

Re: T102/Pottsville, PA... kind of like a \

I hear what you're saying...but you can't really critique a bit like that unless you heard it. When you get something secondhand, the person relaying the bit could have TOTALLY misconstrued something.

And I make that point, because if you actually read Courtney's blog, you would see it is a rambling, stream-of consciousness thing RIFE with spelling mistakes...one of which spells "hypnotherapy" as "HYPNI therapy" - which the anchor could have honestly just read literally...intentionally or unintentionally...maybe trying to make the point that Courtney is off her rocker. Maybe when he said "Oh is THAT how you say that" - he was ridiculing Courtney...but if that wasn't clear, well, maybe it wasn't such a good bit.

Is does seem to be clear that the bit wasn't really prepped well-enough beforehand. That could be a case of no one guiding and airchecking the show...or an anchor and co-host that don't communicate well. When I did mornings, my biggest gripe was having an anchor who went live ALL THE TIME without running stuff by me, after I mentioned over and over that he needed to give me more prep time so I could react to stuff.

But what do you want? It's Pottsville.

Re: T102/Pottsville, PA... kind of like a \

I saw the same bit in the prep stuff I got, and look it was done correctly just as it as read off the paper. I think their job would have been to make it sound funnier than it really was or like G said NOT use it. It really was not all the funny in the first place...it would have been funnier seen written out in a newspaper or something, it was more a visual joke then anything else
