Take Notes Merlin. Cumulus has a good all News Product in Atlanta.

http://www.allnews1067.com/

Look at 106.7 Cumulus News Atlanta I listened to them and they sound like KCBS in San Francisco and WTOP in DC. I hope Merlin is taking notes on this. Cumulus has learned from the mistakes on KGO-AM in San Francisco and the flaws of their Atlanta News/talk rivals WSB-AM/FM and WCFO-AM.

WEMP is what- 3/4 of a year old? They still sound terrible. Yes, they do need to take notes: A station in a market with the perceived "news" station, that might just do considerably well. #NotACumulusFail

Update WEMP is now 5/6 of a year old.

Take note of this, Merlin! There's a huge hole for local New York area talk programming. Program it right and you've got your format.

IMHO, low ratings for WOR and WABC don't mean that New York isn't a good talk radio market. The listeners just aren't happy with what's being offered by WOR and WABC. :)

Well, even morning program in syndicated and NOT about NYC: it's about money and other inaudible rantings from Imus.

Obviously, I was talking about WABC, or else I wouldn't have said "IMUS".

There's one problem. If Merlin makes WEMP sound just like WTOP or KCBS (which sort of sound like WINS and WCBS,) what's to differentiate them from their AM, heritage competition? Remember, when they first started, they tried to have a female flair and failed. How about personality news? Hire a host for mornings and afternoons who can throw it to the news anchors, traffic, weather, etc? It could work. It would be news but sound totally different from WINS and WCBS

What WEMP should do if they do news talk (even if Rush and Sean joins) they should make it up by filling other shifts (midday, evenings, even overnights and weekends) with local talk. Keep Rossini and Packer in the mornings, news team inculded. Maybe hire teve Malzberg instead of Beck (unlike they Philly sister station IQ 106.9)

How about more local talk hosts as mentioned in other threads on Merlin.

Hannity wouldn't join. WABC is flagship.
