Talk Radio Expert Walter Sabo to speak at Talkers

Typo! MY bad...

That Subject line SHOULD have read "He's worthful! He's spineful!"
(Opposite of "worthless, spineless.")

You had me til you got to "youthful!"

Whattya talkin' about?
Those oft-touted VP credits were just the beginning.
NOW, he's a dang CEO, and hasn't got a grey hair on his noggin.
The kid's a prodigy.

COME to Talkers.
Walt's convention appearances are rare.
So be there. Button-hole him. He loves talking-shop.
You may conclude that his detractors here are being meanies.

And BEFORE the aforementioned session from Young Walteaux...

WHATEVER you do, DON'T take that bathroom/cigarette break just-before-lunch.
Hear-me-now-and-believe-me-later.
Heck, believe-me-NOW.

Try this: Google "talk radio consultant."

At-the-very-end-of my mercifully-succinct session...the 15 minutes JUST-before-lunch...when any speaker's greatest challenge is talking-louder-than the-sound-of-575-stomachs-gurgling...I will reveal the sneaky-but-legal reason my web site always comes up first when you Google "talk radio consultant." And it'll work for your web site too.

See y'all in Noo Yawk,

'Sense the pace quickening? 'Feel the anticipation?

Tip: Think "convention casual" dress code.

When I stepped out of NY Penn Station, the perfect soundtrack would've been "Hot town, Summer-in-the-City," through deep WABC reverb.

See you tomorrow/Saturday,

How appropriate, since if some WABC employee, having grown depressed over what has become of that once-great station, decided to leap to their death, they would've possibly landed on your head...as you stepped out of NY Penn Station.

History Lesson

<< if some WABC employee, having grown depressed over what has become of that once-great station, decided to leap to their death, they would've possibly landed on your head...as you stepped out of NY Penn Station. >>

No! For two reasons: In 1965, when WABC played "Summer In The City" exactly every 75 minutes:

1. The owner's debt situation afforded 24/7 in-house content creation, and

2. ...thus people weren't jumping-out-of-windows, AND

3. ...if they did, they wouldn't be landing on people-coming-out-of Penn Station. You'd be splattering in-front-of 1330 Avenue of the Americas, across from the New York Hilton and the Warwick Hotel (where The Beatles stayed, right?).

...but I was speaking in the here-and-now.

Holland, you.....you....you consultant, you.

Biggest, best-eat EVER!

APPLAUSE, APPLAUSE, APPLAUSE for Talkers' 14th New Media Seminar!

If U couldn't be there, gimme a week to finish this road trip, and I'll post video of my session. I'm sure Walt will do the same.

MANY good sessions, LOTSA fun seeing everyone.

Re: Biggest, best-eat EVER!

The problem with Sabo's formulaic approach is that it DOES NOT account for individual talent. The next superstar in talk, whoever that is, will never thrive and/or develop properly in any formulaic arrangement.

Just for starters, there should NEVER be a limit or a mandate on the amount of calls taken in an hour. Some calls deserve a few minutes at least, others 20 seconds at most. Trying to "automate" personality radio is foolish. Sabo still pushes that agenda though. Callers don't make the show, the host makes the show. Callers are only one tool. I listen to a particular show because of the host. It's never "oh so-and-so has the best calls!"

When hosts get on and basically say "it's YOUR show" I wanna puke. I wanna hear a dominant personality who has somethign to say. Random callers cannot be depended upon.

RE "Walter Sabo was a hit"

MedianJ:
You were there!
I'm sorry we didn't get a chance to meet!
Or...DID we?
I actually WAS looking for "MedianJ" on a nametag...

If you're serious about succeeding in talk radio and want to learn from the very best - talk radio expert Walter Sabo will be speaking at the Talkers New Media seminar June 10 and 11 in New York City. He will be giving a special presentation entitled " Talk Radio IS a PPM format."

So what are you going to be talking about ;D

RE "So what are you going to be talking about?"

To clarify: MedianJ wasn't speaking at Talkers, it was Walt.
With all the back-and-forth here, it's easy to lose-track-of who-posted-what.

Keep an eye on Podjockey.com, where Talkers will post audio and video from the New Media Seminar, not-the-least-of-which will be the free-wheeling "Talk Radio Rumble" Internet TV show that had the crowd hoppin.'

And as soooooooooon as I get home from the-radio-road-trip-of-which-Talkers-was-stop-1-of-2, I'll video-ize my session, and it'll be @ Podjockey and on www.HollandCooke.com.

Go Bruins (and how 'BOUT the dang Saux???),

Walter Sabo is getting rave reviews for his standing room only special presentation at Talkers. This is how respect is earned eliminating the possiblity of talk hosts labeling one on air as "worthless and spineless" like some other "so called consultants" who apparently don't have the ability or respect to pack a room.

RE "so called consultants"

On behalf of all consultants who DID attend: Since there's no pertinent licensing authority, WHAT IS the difference between "consultant" and "so-called consultant?"

Would that be measured in number-of-stations-currently-on-retainer?
Number-of-FM-talkers-currently-on-retainer?
Age? Hair color?
Assessed-Property Tax-value-of-home?
Length of yacht?
Actually-having-held-the-title "Program Director" EVER?

Meantime...the plot thickens...
Cue first-four-notes-of theme from "Dragnet..."

Enigmatic MedianJ apparently was NOT there after all.
WERE he/she present, he/she would realize that EVERY session was SRO.
Attendance exceeded capacity-of-auditorium, evidence that this is a MUST-attend conference.
Be-there-or-be-square.

Rave reviews?
Let's read 'em!
To be fair to Young Walteaux, post the link?

Spineful-enough-not-to-post-here-anonymously,

HC

When the auditorium holds 200 and you have 550 (according to talkers) in attendance it should be SRO. It's a nice tactic by the organizer...but not for those trying to be comfy for an all day conference without a seat.

I missed Sabo's talk (had to catch an early flight so I missed the afternoon on Sat) and was a bit disappointed that I did since I wanted to give him a chance. I was one of the ones critical of him early on in this thread. When I'd seen Sabo at past conventions he came across a bit smug to me...but it sounds like he had some great content this year. Hopefully Michael will put it up on the web.

RE "it sounds like he had some great content this year."

Young Walt Emailed me!
Says he's looked-in here.
MUCH too shy to join-in, he confessed.
But 'says VERY flattered by what he's read here.

I TRIED to Reply, but my message bounced-back Undeliverable.
Wanted to offer him a couple podium pointers.
And 'told him I too was looking forward to video of his session...
