Conservative talk radio host and former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) plans to challenge President Trump for the Republican nomination in 2020. Currently syndicated by Salem Media in evenings, the Chicago-based talk host also airs on News/Talk WIND-AM (560 The Answer), where he holds down the 5-7pm slot. Walsh, a former Tea Party congressman, supported Trump during his 2016 campaign but in recent months has called Trump a "liar and bully who is unfit for office."

"Mr. Trump isn't a conservative. He's reckless on fiscal issues; he's incompetent on the border; he's clueless on trade; he misunderstands executive power; and he subverts the rule of law. It's his poor record that makes him most worthy of a primary challenge," Walsh wrote in a New York Times op-ed this month.

This is more of Joe Walsh getting national attention outside of RNC Circles though and to also boost his audience though.
 
He will have to leave his radio show once he formally declares. So who does Salem pick to replace him? Sarah Sanders?
 
Is any current Republican voter going to support Joe Walsh in 2020 though given that Trump is the incumbent? But at the same time if you are a media outlet who's demographics are located in Republican States what would the backlash will be like if you have candidates or pundits from the GOP that don't agree with Trump what would happen to their ratings and audience size though heading into 2020 though. I know Fox News in recent months have been the target of Trump Rants mainly because of the Fox Survey Poll not siding with Trump and also the recent hiring of Donna Brazille a DNC Pundit had made appearances on the outlet though.

So will Joe Walsh give up his Salem show? I know it gets carried in Chicago, his home base, and NYC. Not sure if other Salem Talk stations run it. Michael Medved, who was Salem's least positive Trump supporter, was dropped at the end of last year for former Trump campaign official Sebastian Gorka. So I doubt Walsh can actually challenge Trump in the GOP primary and keep his Salem gig.

Let's remember, Salem has Jay Sekulow on most Salem Religious stations (even though he doesn't do religious discussion) and some Talk stations. He's the president's attorney. That means he could never ever disagree with his client. Not to mention, Sekulow seeks donations to his legal fund for challenging laws he thinks are too liberal. The donation request occurs going in and out of most commercial breaks. His son hosts the show while his dad is working on Trump things.

So will this give Salem a good excuse to dismiss Walsh? After all, it's clear the network wants all its hosts to be pro-Trump. Even morning host Hugh Hewitt, while he disagrees sometimes with the president's tweets or language, still always couples it with a something positive he can say about Trump.

Yes I was going to guess cable pundit as my choice given that Joe Walsh is a Republican running against Trump in the 2020 Presidential primary does not sound viable though given the obvious reason here.
 
He's not going to grow conservative support by going on MSNBC and saying his "hand is extended" to them. It may be that his hatred of President Trump is more important to him than his conservatism.

I bet he has not thought of what his plan B would be if he fails to win the nomination for his party.

I am not sure about that, don't forget that he was radio host by local and then later also did a sydincated show, that aired for 3 hours 1 hour after his Chicago show ended. If you had gone back to say 2015, would you have thought Donald Trump, a total rookie in politics, would either go on to win the nomination or even be elected president? For him to get the niomation he has to win the majority of states, and be the last man standing for the Republican side, as h has to get supporters and people;es vote in the states enough for him to stay in. Plus he has some political experience, where look at Donald Trump, he is the man that is currently serving as President of the United States. He is running for a second and final term as president, as no person can serve no more then 2 terms, provided they spent no more then 2 years filling in, provided what happened to the previous president.

Yes, he was. But he's a second-tier radio host on a second-tier network, largely composed of third-tier AMs. There might be one million Americans who had heard Joe Walsh's show even once, and I would bet that is generous.

If it were Hannity or Levin making this bid, it might be a more viable effort.
