Tampa/St.Petersburg/Clearwater - Movin' On Up

Tampa Bay grows from Arbiton market #19 to 18... jumping over Nassau-Suffolk.

17 San Diego, CA 2,536,000
18 Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL 2,387,300
19 Nassau-Suffolk (Long Island), NY* 2,325,200

As the economy continues to falter, don't be surprised to see a caravan of unemployed, overburdened, overtaxed folks heading south on I-75 and stopping here. When the 2010 census is complete, we may see yet another jump in market size.

Buy land....

I think the market will continue to grow as well. Unfortunately, considering the proliferation of networked programming and today's dismal economy, I don't see the growth leading to more localized programming. In fact, I'd say Tampa radio had more to offer back in the days it was the 21st or 22nd market, than it does now at #18.
