WHDH Channel 7’s decision to cut short its 11 p.m. newscast Wednesday night after it suffered a “meltdown of technology” left industry experts scratching their heads. A control room switch, which ran everything from the news feeds to the cameras, failed, prompting the station to cancel its newscast in favor of airing MSNBC’s coverage of an arrest in the JonBenet Ramsey case.

You'd think a major market network station would have a backup plan in place..
 
Two thoughts:

1. this is what happens when you rely on computers for all your video.

2. there is no excuse for not having a plan b - particularly when you rely on computers for all your video.

Whoever is responsible for 1. should be fired. Whoever is responsible for 2. should also be fired. Hopefully just one moron is responsible for both mistakes.
 
Once TV Land sees the German weather girl breaking up (down) on the news bloopers, she no doubt will be hired to host the Friday movie.
 
Julius have you now moved to Boston so you can complain about TV and radio there?
 
I could be WAY off on this, but the station question used to have an anchor on it named Chris May. He left a couple months ago and went to another station in town. Maybe Julius May is upset Chris May is gone?

No. I saw this news on the New England board. Since this is a national story now, I should post it here.
 
Wow, OMG, in all the years I've watched local news as well as all the local markets I've observed, this HAS to top the list. Giving up and can't do a newscast at all?!? I've seen different types of screwups during newscasts but at least the 'victims' were able to salvage what was left and fill out the half-hour. Even one station that got hit by a tornado still improvised, once back on the air, by doing newscasts from their back office/off-studio newsroom till the damages were repaired.
