Tell me what you think of this schedule for a local station

I don't know where to post this, but I would just like to see what others think of a schedule for a random local TV station I made up. It would be based in Vermont. Please be honest in your opinions and be specific. This is my own little experiment. Thanks in advance. NOTE: This station is Independent. Furthermore, I made this schedule very diverse, not a dream schedule, just a typical one that a station might have.

Thanks, Chris

EXTRA NOTES:

58 is the UHF channel number.
programming between 3 and 5AM would be called "58 at night", like Nick at Nite.
Notice there is no infomercials on the schedule. I think infomercials are a waste of air time and belong on Access TV, or PIN info network.
I also don't like airing double runs of daytime court and talk shows that air for an hour more than once like Judge Mathis and The People's Court. The half hour shows are a different story.

JUST SO YOU KNOW...
I'm NOT crazy. Programming a TV station is my dream, and would hope that one day I could get a job like this. I'm only 17 and find that sitting here creating schedules is more interesting then going out with friends.

Chris, go get your dream!

I did this very thing when I was in high school and spent 20+ years in radio and tv. Did you ever draw pictures of tv cameras during class? I did.

You should write a letter or 2 to your local tv station Managers and tell them what you are doing. They probably had a dream similoar to yours. You should visit a few stations too. I did, in Chicago, and a letter led to a 2 year "appreniceship" at Channel 26 there.

I went to several nab conventions in Chicago and came home with alot of stuff. Do you get "Broadcasting Magazine?" The people I visited gave me old issues until I got my parents to subscribe for me.

Also, Max and Orion at WGN are great people. You might write them, as they'd LOVE to see you are "running" US Farm Report" (a barter program - no cost to stations except a few ads within the program). This show has been a "pet" project of theirs for a long time.

You are aware that alot of those programs you scheduled COST MONEY. The GM would probably sacrifice a rating point or 2 to not spend so much.

You should get a list of BARTER shows. 8am-noon and 2-4 are court shows. O brother!

Are you counter-programnming?" When someone has soap operas you should run something that appeals to a different audience, etc.

Is this just YOUR choice of shows or are all of those programs available where channel 58 would broadcast? Get a tv guide from that market and find out.

Why no local live stuff, except news? It's cheaper to run LIVE shows than those sitcoms.

Movies are cheap too, some are public domain (free) and you only pay for the print of the film (usually on tape).

The Sunday religion is fine - good money. You can run religion on weekday early mornings too. MONEY! No infomercials may not be good as they also BRING money. MONEY is the name of the game, especially in programming.

Believe it or not, in 1966 I was 17. My parents thought I was crazy, until I BOUGHT my first (of 4) radio stations at age 23. I've been very blessed. I wish you the best, too.

Quick Comments. I don't particularly like The Cosby Show stuck in the middle of all the court shows at 1PM. It seems out of place to me. I also don't like The Court Shows starting at 8AM. It seems to early to start with syndication. FOX 25 Boston tried this with Ricki Lake and the idea failed. I would keep the morning News going until 9AM and then start the Court Shows an hour later. Also get rid of Cosby at 1 and 1:30. Not sure why you double up all the sitcoms either. To me that just means less variety. So I would just air a half hour of each sitcom and use the extra time to add additional syndicated programming. How about Talk Shows and Game Shows? That would be nice too. I see that you have Montel. That's a good start. How about some more. Ellen would be good.

Thanks for making the schedule. It's always fun to read what other people would do if they were in charge of programming. We all have our own ideas and it's cool to share.

Very minor suggestion...The "Weekend News" is at 9am on Saturday and at 10am on Sunday. Why not have it at nine BOTH days to make it easier for viewers to recall when it's on? Also, by having it at nine on Sunday, you might catch folks before part two of their weekend begins or as the get ready for a 10 o'clock church service.
