Ten Years Ago on July 19, 2006 - The End of WFMX

Sad radio anniversary of note today. Ten years ago today (July 19, 2006) was the last day for 105.7 WFMX, Statesville. While corporate radio had chiseled away at what was once a GREAT WFMX in its earlier years in Statesville, it was still sad to see the plug finally pulled on a heritage local station - the first country FM in the area nearing its 50th anniversary, which it never achieved as Clear Channel moved it to the Triad, lowered power, and flipped formats.

That means I've been here ten years.

I came here because I figured people would rant about it.

In recent years, though, we've ended up with something much better, at least in parts of the Triad. WBRF in Galax VA plays the classics and has great local DJs too. Things change somewhat after 5 but it's a great station during the day.
