If you've EVER been a member of the Texas Radio Hall of Fame (not nominee, not inductee, but MEMBER) you can download a ballot at www.trhof.com. Fill it out, fax or mail it in, and you're done. Say what you want about the HOF, as some of you usually do, but if you don't vote, your suggestions won't be counted. And with most of the heavy hitters already inducted over the last 8 years, it's time to push for some of the workhorses and unsung heroes to get recognized.
A few of my personal recommendations to ponder...
Joe Bagby, who just passed away, shouldn't have been overlooked this long for a place in the HOF. 50+ years in the same market.
Randy Brown aka Christopher Haze, KNUS and KEGL and KTKS and others; most noted for inventing The Eagle concept and programming for KFJZ/KEGL in 1980. Great contributor to DFW radio that's been overlooked as well.
Sam Pate, newsman for KBOX and KLIF and KVIL, who was the first radio reporter on the scene to report JFK's death in 1963. Good guy who still has a great passion for radio.
John McCarty, the late traffic reporter and morning show personality. DFW got their traffic from John from 1985-2001 or so, and heard him doing the morning shows on KYNG, KSNN, KRSR-Star 105, etc, and he also worked for KXOL and KZEE and KFJZ along the way. He was also one of the last nice guys in the biz who helped out a LOT of us when we were "between jobs."
Dave Tucker, longtime personality on KBOX, KFJZ, KLIF, KNUS, and did the morning show on KLTY earlier in the 2000s. A consummate radio pro who worked with the best and made them better...and has a serious set of pipes to boot.
Dick Siegel, comedian extraordinaire and longtime partner to Hal Jay at WBAP. Hal's already in the TRHOF, and now it should be Sieg's turn. Worked at KLIF, KPLX, WBAP, KTFW and others. Anyone recall when Hal and Dick did BOTH morning and afternoon drive, for THIRTEEN years at WBAP? Hell, that deserves an award all of its own.
Running out of time and energy to write more bio's, but here's the others I suggest: Jim Thomas, Russ Bloxom, Frank Jolley and Ron Selden.
