The 3rd NFL home TV blackout this season goes to.......

Today's Oakland Raiders home game against the Houston Texans will be blacked out on local television in the Bay Area after the Raiders failed to sell out for the first time this season.

And here in Houston that game is up against Cowboys-Giants. As crappy as the Texans have been this season, the folks at FOX may see some pretty good numbers against the Texans on CBS. I'm surprised at the number of CBS stations running Texans-Raiders; I figured it would be one of those home/peripheral market yawners.

I'm not surprised at the markets getting Houston/Oakland. The Texas stations are broadcasting both Texas games, and the California/Nevada markets would have shown the Raider game anyway. Bay Area, Sacramento and Monterey/Salinas are in the blackout zone.

The only other markets showing the game are Phoenix and Tucson, and it seems as if the local affiliates have bent over backward to avoid programming against the Cardinals. When your team is 2-9, I'm sure a lot of fans would watch whatever other game is on. I wish we had San Diego/Buffalo like Yuma does - I'd be watching that game instead.

some of the Texas stations, epsecailly in Austin, showed the Titans vs Colts game so University of Texas fans could watch Vince Young.

Appears Midland-Odessa, The RGV, Corpus Christi, Houston, Bryan-College Station, Beaumont-Port Arthur, and Sherman-Denison were the Texas CBS markets that got Texans-Raiders. Everyone else got Colts-Titans (ten other markets, if I've counted correctly.)
