The Adventures of Lionel on Liberal Talk...

looks like he has few affiliates on the west coast....he talks like he has a mouth full of marbles

Lionel used to be in Atlanta, and I loved his show. He was the ONLY intelligent non hysterical, non xenophobic conversation in this city. Lionel, if you read this, please return to Atlanta. Save us from Rush, Boortz, and Hannity, who can't speak with a dissenting caller without insulting them.

I've heard that in the case of Clear Channel, for example, depending on which market their progtalker is in, they choose between either Malloy (often in more liberal markets like Portland or Detroit) or Lionel (for conservative markets like Cincinnati). Colmes is choice #3 usually.

In conservative San Diego, Clear Channel's KLSD carries Malloy live from 7 pm to 10 pm and then Lionel, on delay, from 10 pm to 1 am.

Insulting dissenting callers is to political talk radio what screaming into a mic is to pro wrestling. It's part of the show. It's what the fans expect. News/talk radio is to political discussion what pro wrestling is to sports. Just as pro wrestling is "sports entertainment", news/talk radio is "political news entertainment".

When fans watch pro wrestling, they cheer for the babyface and boo at the heel. That's what the spectacle is all about. When fans listen to news/talk radio, they expect to be able to cheer the host and boo the dissenting callers. If you're looking for calm, reasonable discussion of political issues among rational, sensible people, you aren't going to find it on the radio -- especially if members of the listening audience get to phone in and be on the air.

The only difference between pro wrestling and news/talk radio is that news/talk radio hosts can't fake their political beliefs very well over the long haul because their "bouts" run too long.

Please don't insult pro wrestling by comparing it to political talk radio! ;D
