"THE BAR" COUNTRY FORMAT SYNDICATED BY 2 DALLAS RADIO HANDS

Dean James (KSCS, Entravision and husband of WBAP's Susan Darwin) and Joel Folger (KEGL jock in the earliest Eagle days) are syndicating their country format, "The Bar," to Waitt Radio Networks, according to Radio World. It's described as "a deep country format featuring a blend of current hits and crossover rock." "The Bar" debuted in March 2006.

Folger, who I remember best as serving up many an "Eagle Free Flight" around 1980-81, also created the "Bob-FM" format.

And before anyone starts making comparisons to KZPS, the article didn't say whether "The Bar" included Nashville country. I believe that's the difference between "Lone Star" and other country-rock hybrids..."Lone Star" is only "Texas" country, right?

Nope heard Johnny Cash and Merle on it. WAITT radio network like I said before is based in Omaha and ran very cheaply and sounds very cheap as well.

OH I am sure they will "Waitt", and Lose "Waitt"while"waitting" for it to succeed. It won't be a heavy"waitt", not on that network.

"BOB" sounds like a "Jack" rip-off to me. Kind of like all the stations that used Drake programming in the 70's. If Drake was not available in your market, you used other services that were commonly called "Fake Drake"

CHUM's CFWM 99.9 Winnipeg became the first "Bob FM" in the spring of 2002. Based on its success, Rogers' decided to try the format on its CKKS (now CKLG) 96.9 Vancouver and became the first "Jack FM" when it launched at the end of December 2002. So, technically, "Bob" came first as a radio format.

If I recall, CFWM's change was supposedly inspired by the PD asking people what they liked to listen to at a party and got a variety of music. So, CFWM's AC format was adjusted...

There was an on-line Internet station called "Jack FM" that had the name and slogan. If I recall, Rogers claimed it settled on the name and since the Internet station had the name, it acquired the name from them and the slogan, but didn't use the Internet stream as a basis for the format.

I think since "Jack" was cloned faster in Canada (CJAQ 92.5 Toronto, for example), it got the jump in the states as the "brand name" for the adult hits format, particularly when CBS started flipping stations using the "Jack FM" package.

I think actually the Bob version includes a little more obscure stuff that's not heard on the Jack clones. Otherwise, they are pretty similar. As for stations anywhere near here...Waitt's Bob feed can be heard on KWFB 100.9 Wichita Falls, KNCE 96.1 Abilene. ABC syndicates the Jack feed on KVEE 99.3 Tyler, KJXJ 103.9 Bryan/College Station, or KOJK 97.3 Oklahoma City. ABC also has it on newer affiliates in Amarillo (KPRF 98.7) and Lubbock (KLVT-FM 105.3) as well.
