The Beatles Philadelphia story Began on this day February 10 1964

After the concert later in 1964 the sheets and pillow cases the Beatles slept on were given away in a WIBG Radio 99 contest. Read the true story with pictures here.

Just discovered...a roll of film from the 1964 Beatles concert at Convention Hall in Philadelphia. See a handful of these rare never seen photo's in the display carousel on the story page. (The rest are being developed and will be released shortly).

I remember you father telling me about how one of the opening acts did not want to play before other act and that Frank Rizzo the police commissioner at the time told the group that if they did not go out and play that he was going to charge them with insisting a riot.

On another Beatles matter, EMI is seeking to sell the Abbey Road Studio. When it last sold it went for 2.4 billion British pounds, or about $5,000,000,000.00 U.S. No known takers or details on the offer for sale as of yesterday.

That was the Rolling Stones & Hemin's Hermit's concert in '65. Hy could not settle a fight between his two main performing acts. Hy asked Frank Rizzo, the chief of police who was at the show providing security to do something. Frank Rizzo told both manages of the groups that if they didn't perform right now as scheduled, they would be arrested. They were in hand cuffs at the time. Needless to say both groups stopped the bickering between them and flipped a coin to determine who would perform first and who would close the show, and the show went on.

See a picture of Hy & the Rolling Stones at that show. In this picture Hy is telling Mic Jagger to stop fighting with Herman's Hermit's and get on the stage here.

The opening acts for the Herman's Hermits their next appearance (at the Phila Civic Center?) were the Blues Magoos and The Who. In the days when Jimi Hendrix opened for The Monkees.
