The Best Morning Shows in Christian Radio

So who has the best morning show in Christian radio?

I vote for Chuck Knapp KTIS Minneapolis(I guess that doesn't count, he is no longer there), Johny Stone Star99 NY, Mike & Susan at KSBJ Houston, Scott and Sam at Spirit in Seattle.

Wow 49 views and no replies...no opinions. There must be some opinion. Or does Christian morning radio SUCK?

Well, I've got to say that there are some really good morning shows out there and even more really bad ones...in mainstream and Christian alike.

However, the best morning guy I've ever heard (hands-down) is Craig West of KXOJ in Tulsa. I haven't heard the latest incarnation of the KXOJ morning show for a long time. But as a talent, Craig is Grade-A and top choice.

I was waiting in line for the buffet at GMA last year with a well known consultant. This consultant told me that if Craig would just promote and market himself, he could easily be in a major market or on any network within a two months. This consultant went on to say however, that he knows Craig is not in it for self-promotion, so he'd never see Craig doing that. He said..."It's a shame that more people aren't aware of what a powerhouse talent he is. He'd have offers left and right."

Truth is, I don't think Craig wants offers. Although, I know for a fact that he's gotten them from some major names in the industry over the last few years. I think Craig loves working for Bob in Tulsa. The two of them have been on staff together (at 2 different stations) for the last 10 years. Craig is truly happy and content. I think that's what many of us search for years to find.

Hey, if it ain't broke...why fix it? Right?

My 4 years working with Craig at KXOJ were some of the most FUN years on staff with anyone. The man is a riot and humble on and off the air. And I know that Bob Thornton has said numerous times that Craig is the best talent (morning or otherwise) that he's ever heard.

I've gotta agree. Craig is a freakin' genious. And allowed to be himself, his talent is literally amazing and a work of art.

I would have to vote for Kevin & Taylor at 104.7 the Fish in Atlanta. I like their delivery, style and just plain friendliness. Their show is "easy on the ears".

I would have voted for Tim and Al on KJSL in St. Louis, but they are long gone.

Long after moving into off-air services at WMCA/WWDJ, the wonderful George Flores is still remembered & loved throughout the NYC area for his longtime morning show on 970-DJ.

For my tastes, and remember that I'm older than most of the posters on this particular board, I get ministered to, and entertained by, Mark Zimmerman on WCRF/103.3 in Cleveland. I don't listen to Len and Brooke on the Fish, but I'm sure that they are good people.

THE FISH, CLEVELAND

Speaking of the Fish in Cleveland:

The exit of such a company stalwart as ex PD Sue Wilson makes one wonder if she's seen the writing on the wall and decided to leave for a reason.

Wasn't there a rumor going around a few months ago about the station being on the block for sale?

Geez?? Or is that to slang... If HE were on the AM Drive, what would it sound like???
I miss Dave Campbell ("D.C. Bash") from the old "Yes-FM" and "Radio-U" days.. To raw for our AC dominated suburban white radio of the era... Or is that TOO SLANG!
(This is in jest....In honor of "Bash"....)...

You beat me to the punch with that one Skip. The absolute best CCM radio morning show I've heard or ever will hear.

Honorable mentions:

First and foremost, the late Mark Rider. My buddies Jeff Brown Way-FM Nashville and David Christian KTIS Minneapolis. And of course, ol' bro' Jim Channell.

Doug and Kim in the morning on "The Fish" in Nashville and on Salem Network stations across the US.

Quality interviews with the big artists, topical discussions, family friendly.

Like Jon Rivers on K-Love but he's getin old. Time to cut the ponytail.

My mistake. I left Kurt and Fritz at 93.9 The Song Indy off my list. Add their show along with Jim Barron and Phil Reaser at WBCL Ft. Wayne.

Hey Chief. Are you running Salem on your stations now?

74 WIXYGrad, you may have me hooked on this show. I am still in my 30's and I like the morning show on WCRF. I heard the show for the first time this morning and I was impressed. It is the best morning show for my taste because the entire staff seems to work together and they are focused spiritually as well as professionally. Also, I can understand the lyrics in the music they air. It is a great show consistently providing spiritual meat for our morning diet. Kudos to Moody Broadcasting.

Glad I could help. by the way check out my blog, http://wixygrad.blogspot.com/ It's called WIXY's Gone Bananas, and it's a look into my personal observations. Sometimes I might post something about Christian Radio, something Ohio Media Watch respectfully stays away from. I even have something about recent changes at WCRF; http://wixygrad.blogspot.com/2006/09/christian-media-notes.html

WCRF's the first place I heard the golden voice of our very own Radioelizabeth

I don't know much of some of the stations you all talk about. I'm just a Redneck Christian down here in Southeastern North Carolina, a morning man at a 50,000 watt Southern Gospel station in a little town called Fairmont. I don't have the resources of a major market station, but I feel like I do a halfway decent morning show here for North and South Carolina. The trouble with our station is that we're in the Fayetteville market but we don't get into Fayetteville. Our signal goes mainly into South Carolina, where we're also in the Florence and Myrtle Beach markets. Hopefully our website will be up soon and we'll be streaming for the entire country. The web address is www.wstsfm.com. Hope you get a chance to check it out sometime.

the Mark and Mack show in Birmingham, hands down the best I ever heard. Don't know where they are now but they did great interviews, funny stuff, and were involved in the community. Solid ratings too.

Obadian & Nikki at Radio U are a great show, Scott Velentine at Spirit, and Craig West is great on KXOJ. I listen to them online a lot.

Craig West from KXOJ is one of the most talented radio personalities that I've come across in a long time. Very entertaining, engaging and relevant.

There's the usual, Scott Smith and Tyler at WPOZ in Orlando... then staying in Florida The Joy FM has a solid show with Dave Cruse and Bill Martin and are probably benefiting from the exit of Gus from Spirit.

Obadia and Nikki are REAL talents... They were pups with open ears when I was at the "U".... Great pair..
