THE BIG ROUND MOUND OF SOUND HAS EXITED THE BUILDING!

Just heard thru the grapevine that Kevin Miller and John Steigerwald have vacated the building. ;)

The big KD has a new lineup starting.

It's no secret since KDKA has it on their website. Beginning Jan. 5, Mike Pintek returns and takes over 6 to 10 p.m. Honsberger moves to noon to 3 daily, and they'll have a 3 to 6 news block.

As a former Pittsburgher (actually McKees Rocks), who listens to both KQV & KDKA on-line (& before IBOC from WBZ and WINS obliterated KDKA’s signal I would tune in KD on the radio), do you think this will be the final nail in the coffin for KQV’s “all news” format? After all most folks who listen to All-News formatted stations are most likely to listen in AM & PM drive.

Also, once the economy improves, does anyone think that CBS will model KDKA after WBZ in Boston? News all day, local talk all night…or am I just dreaming of the good old days to think that KD would actually program local talk again overnight.

What's the point? Until/unless the empty suits at CBS turn off WBZ-HD, you won't hear it beyond Murraysville or Moon Township.

Doing the news block 3 to 6 is the only solution that makes sense. There was so much clutter built in after 4PM that a talk show couldn't get any continuity whatsoever. Honz can be the sacrificial Rush wannabe and Pintek's good. I'm surprised that they're doing anything live at night.

I'm not sure what it will take to get KQV to give up the ghost. They haven't had any ratings in forever and the format is so slow and tired that it's not even a good headline service. It's obvious they're cutting corners by letting Eric Hagman walk after he declined to add news reading to his sports duties. I understand the weekends have also fallen apart, too.

Can't see CBS entertaining the idea of an all-news format in a market this small right now. They'd honestly need to add a minimum of five people to the newsroom just for starters and they aren't going to spend that sort of cash in 2009.

KQV dying a slow, painful death. Some very talented newspeople over there, but the format is stale, the management is stuck in its ways and there are times when you could reach more people by opening the windows at Centre City Tower and shouting the news to the people at the bus stop below than the transmitter can reach.

Dumping Kevin Miller is addition by subtraction. How far behind will Honz be especially with someone out of town now calling at least half the shots?
