The Cal Ripken of Afternoon Drive: TP's 1st Break at Kim FM

Could've been a little tighter... j/k

what's it doing linked off of Q1075....?

saving a piece of history I guess

I am sure Tom was just happy to have gotten through the break without saying "FM100." After nearly 30 years, you know it's gonna happen. :)

....everybody's a critic......when you have 30 years in the biz, we might listen to your criticism or suggestions....till them, well....this is America and you have the right to your opinion.....sounded fine to me.

Been listening on the stream since 2:45pm. Tom, it's really great to hear you on the air again. CFKane

Oh come on, Do people have to be serious ALL THE TIME? I've known Tom a while, chit chatted, friended, myspaced etc. Just a playing among people in radio.

Then again, there always has to be someone pulling the 'you apparently don't know jack about radio because you've only been in it a few years and even though you're the demo that most stations are aiming for I'm not going to validate anything you say because only the people that have been in radio for 30 years know what people 30 years younger really want.
That and I make bad ass run on sentences.

who the hell is Cal Ripken? What station did he work for? :-X ;D rmdc

Big NASCAR star back in the 70's. Had a wreck with Junior Johnson and works full time now as a vegetable.

lighten up a little Ninja......how was I to know that you were kidding? I, too know TP pretty well....we worked in the same building for 9 years....one of the nicest guys in the business.

I'm glad Tom's back and all, but isn't there a possibility that posting his first break a bit much?

I mean, there are a lot of other people who were at their stations for a long time before being unceremoniously dumped, too.

Not at all. I didn't hear it live, so thanks!

um...because right after he said it could have been tighter he said j/k meaning just kidding. Duh. ???

how the hell am I to know that "j/k" meant "just kidding"? That must be a "text messaging thang". I live in a world where people use real words. I just don't understand why folks spend 2 minutes leaving a text message when they could leave the same voice mail message in 15 seconds.

I can only speak for myself, but I text more than call because my cell phone plan has unlimited texting, whereas my unlimited minutes don't start until 9pm.
Totally sucks when you constantly have to call the studio for a mic check on your cell and you can just count the minutes disappearing.

Back to topic, Tom sounded great - bless his heart, there was one stagger of "FMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.... KIM FM" around 5:15, but he recovered like the pro he is.... now, if we can only get our other beloved, displaced jocks back on the air, all will be right with the world - for about 10 minutes.

I tuned in yesterday afternoon to hear TP on KIM and to find out what the music would be ... seems to me that the programming did shift at least a bit back over the past month or so... it's great to hear him back on the air. I did notice that the station IDs all sound careful and deliberate kinda like when a woman first gets married and has to get used to saying a different last name. I hope this is the beginning of great things for the station.

When I first heard the news, I couldn't believe it! I thought Tom would retire from WMC. But good for you, Tom...one of the nicest guys I've ever worked with in this biz. I listened to that break somebody posted...and I'll have to either listen online or come up one of these days. I miss Memphis, myself. Didn't know Sherrie was back there either. Guess I'm a bit behind on Memphis radio news. Anyhow, Cal, er, I mean Tom...keep it up! You're one of the best!
