Going back to the days when it was owned by The Capital Times, WIBA has been the benchmark for radio news in the Madison area.

Anchored by two legendary newsmen, Bob King and Bob Banko, the station was the place Madisonians turned to get a quick update on what was happening locally. Reporters with names like Neil Heinen, Bill Graf and Liz Beyler did the grunt work, covering city hall, the courts, the Legislature. Many young journalists got a start there, including Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter and author David Maraniss.

The station was founded by William T. Evjue and this paper owned it until the mid-'70s, when it was sold to the Des Moines Register and Tribune Co. During the years the paper owned it, it had a close connection with The Capital Times' newsroom. The paper's reporters would carbon copy the station's news center and frequently call in reports on breaking stories. ...
