There may be several reasons why Sheen bombed but the one I think is first and foremost is that he is a scripted actor. It takes much different skill to appear live and hold an audience.

And it doesn't help that he is not really all that strong an actor to begin with. Cryer and Co. carry 2 1/2 Men. Charlie is just a set-up.
