The Dean of Boston Talk Radio - Howie Carr?

Talkers Magazine's Heavy Hundred lists has Howie Carr is listed as "the dean of Boston talk radio." Somewhat of an insult to old Jerry Williams, after what Howie did to Jerry. Or Father Time, as Howie would say.

Jay Severn comes in just one behind Howie. How Mancow beats them both by a long shot, I can't imagine.

"What's your favorite flavor of ice cream?"

And maybe the same fate will befell Howie some day, but who knows. I got into talk radio after finding Jerry
and he was a master and a legend. So is Howie, in my opinion.

He's the dean of mailing it in. That's for sure.
"Do you have a good elderly driver story?"

Mailing it in= just doing what succeeds. In the last ratings period he was tied for #1. I'd hate to think
how popular he'd be if he actually tried!

Meanwhile the Phoenix is amazed that Howie had Randy Price on air but didn't play the Scondras sound effect.
Price is a longtime friend, etc. The making fun of gays may just be an act for Howie; one story in the column says that when WEEI's Gerry Callahan made a remark when the anti-sodomy laws were repealed saying
there would probably be a huge party at Randy's house. The ex- Ch 7 anchor:
"After I heard about it, I called and left a message on his phone: 'Hey, Gerry, I just want to tell you there's going to be a big party at my house — and I heard you're the perfect person to be invited.' I didn't hear back."

Dean as in he has been around the longest in the market... I'd say that is correct.

I know there are some weekend people that have been doing it longer, but as for full timers he's been in the seat the longest. I don't count sports radio as a talk format.

IMHO Jerry Williams will forever be the "Dean" of Talk Radio in Boston

Will the last live local talk radio host please turn off the lights when you leave the building.

That's false. He was tied for #2. WBUR 90.9FM was #1 station in PMD in 25-54.
Saying Howie is successful is like saying GM is the #1 automaker among the Big 3. It's all relative.
