The Doctors (the soap) reruns to air on Retro TV

Retro TV has announced plans to air reruns of former NBC soap The Doctors. The announcement doesn't give specifics other than it will start later this year. The We Love Soaps article does say that Retro TV will begin with episodes from 1967.

The president/CEO of SFM Entertainment, the syndicator that has had distribution rights to the soap for the past several years, stated previously that most all the series (save an ep or 2?) existed and was available to be aired, but he was not sure of tape quality of the oldest eps. That could be a reason why Retro's airings will start with 1967 episodes (if that newsbit turns out to be true).

According to SFM's website, they have 4,865 episodes available for syndication which is around 400 short of the entire run. So either they didn't save all the tapes, or the older ones were not of a quality appropriate for broadcast. Retro TV's site also is promoting episodes from 1967, along with actors from that era, so it's probably true. The Doctors achieved its highest ratings in 1968, which might be the reason for starting at that time.

Unfortunately, our local affiliate carried RTV but dropped it for MeTV about three years ago. I would love to get these episodes in my collection, especially considering the rarity and scarcity of the material. It's unlikely they'll ever be released on DVD or aired on another channel. I guess I'll have to pay somebody in another area to record them for me.

Does anyone know, are we allowed to make such a post here, asking for that kind of help, or are there any websites where people post want ads for recording services? I used to belong to a site called The TV Connection where you could make requests for people in different tv markets to tape shows for you, but that site has been basically inactive for a decade.

Retro is on a subcarrier of a low-powered station in our market (Atlanta). Not on our satellite system, either. So even if I wanted to see repeats of The Doctors, I couldn't.

Ccook, You should be able to watch RTV and any other digital channels in your area with rabbit ears (and a digital converter box if your TV is old and doesn't have a built-in digital tuner.) I have a portable TV for use when we lose electricity, which happens often here in Tennessee during the spring and summer. With that I can pick up all of our local affiliates and their subchannels (MeTV, Antenna TV, etc.)
