There's something about the charm of those 70s shows, that gets lost when you try to remake them.

The worst part is since the subject matter is static, you'd probably be better just airing the reruns as a "retro" thing.

Would today's kids watch 1970s children's shows like old Electric Companys? No doubt Morgan Freeman would draw in adult viewers (which was one of the reasons the DVD sets sold so well), but would the 70s fashions, lingo and style bore a child instead of educate?

I don't think many of today's kids would watch a 1970's Electric Company. Yes i do think they would be bored.

Back in the 70s, kids back then..were just that..kids. Today OTOH, a lot of kids aact pretty much like younger adults. I can still remember back in the 80s kids ( even in high school ), guys were not allowed to wear earrings. Today, not only do boys were such things to school but many of them have real tattoos as well. Like the photo I saw over the summer that appeared in one of the Denver newspapers. The pic was that of a local high school football player. The guy had these massive black tattoos up and down his arms, several earrings in both ears, a shaved head and a full beard. The guy had just turned 16 ! ! !
A guy like that chances are would be considered "cool" by many of today's kids. So a TV show from 1973 where the kids look like their clothes came from Sears I doubt will cut it with todays kids.

[NEW ELECTRIC COMPANY SNEAK PREVIEW]

"MarcB" has five seconds to read the next word he sees. Can you read it before he does?

(tick... tick... tick...)

WXCT!

I wonder the same thing about "New Zoo Revue", which was taken out of mothballs merely to provide a choice for E/I programming for stations -- that show educates, too, though the fact that it's old may handicap its popularity with today's children.

To me, this was the most educational segment of "New Zoo Revue":

Andrea

Ten years ago, Noggin debuted and was a "TV Land/Nick@Nite" of CTW programs, Electric Company was a nightly feature. Even as an adult it was still entertaining. I won't hold my breath for the new Electric Company.

Speaking of New Zoo Revue, one of the most amazing outakes ever! Warning, dirty words and adult situations:

There is no way a remake of The Electric Company could recapture the slick, far-out and groovy vein it pulsed through back in the 70's but if it can get just one new Tom Lehrer song from it then I'd call it a success.

I just went to Oprah.com and suggested she have a reunion of the original cast, and promote the new show. I think it would be great to see all of them again and hear the behind-the-scenes info on the show. I figure if anyone could get them together again it would be Oprah! I had the biggest crush on Judy Graubart (aka Jennifer of the Jungle). I wanted to be her monkey...

I loved it when Electric Company would include a Coyote/Road Runner cartoon within the show.
Life ain't nothing but a roadrunner cartoon... You either get the anvil, or the bird...

Was it Electric company, or another children's program where one episode ended with a person saying "Sesame street has been brought to you today..." Then Someone else inturrupted angerly saying "NO! Sesame Street has NOT been brouht to you TODAY!!!!"

That was very funny. All I recall is that it wasn't sesame street I was watching, and the humour was very good.
