The Electro Hip Hop and House Show on Power 98.3 KKFR

I'll just "prepare for the worst and hope for the best"

Works every time! When you DON'T look forward to it and prepare for the worst, the worst usually does not come to happen! (but I must admit I was still secretly looking somewhat forward to it). Not only did they have the live club broadcast on KKFR, but they also reassured that it will be going down like this every week. The mixes and blending might not be perfect, but at least the job is getting done and somebody is doing it.

87% r&b and 13% electronics. Not bad, although I do prefer the 100% electronic style they first started off the first few weeks with. KZZP did good with their mix from 11-12, and KVIB on air's were a little too excited when it came to breaking out the "la la la" by LMFAO... so I guess that means they will now be playing that.

I listened to B-96 Street mix all night last night... It was almost pure Electro house,, even the Hip Hop played was all Dance Mixed and Mashed... My only complaint was each hour, every DJ seemed to play Kid Cudi's Day N night,,,, they should check each others playlist to avoid that... also,,, I think I heard 5 remixes of boom boom Pow last night. All in all,,,, a good Dance show for CHR Rhythmic,, even heard a euro set, and they are playing the new David Guetta and Kelly Rowland in regular rotation.... Its nice that Chi Town has a Rhythmic playing mixes till 6 AM,,, I just wish the mixes started before 11 PM,,,, I know Chicago is an hour behind me, but just accross the boarder in Northwest Indiana Witin FM range, its still 11 PM....

Each hour? That's a lot of dj's they have there then. The only station here in Az (that I know of) with a large amount of dj's close to that is 101.5 JamZ, but they at least go for about two or more hours per set during weekends. How ironic that JamZ has the most (and usually the better) dj's, but some other stations have more mixes than them throughout the week, while JamZ limits themselves (mostly) to the weekends.

Power has more mixes, but most of the time I still listen to JamZ or Kiss because of the large amount of flaws that take place when certain dj's mix there. A combination of being off beat more than average and tending to try to play everything between 117 bpm and 130 bpm all at the same speed just doesn't do it for me. I don't care to hear "I'm the ish" at the same speed as "Poker face" and "universal mind control". "I'm the ish" itself is pretty boring most of the time, even at it's regular speed, but I just like the fact that it is a new style of sound that people are opening up to. As far as KZZP, I don't even know why Kiss would think to limit themselves to only an hour a day throughout the weekdays, but I should be happy because there was a time when it was only Power that mixed in Az outside of the weekends. If I learned anything from the loss of KPTY, it should be to be thankful for what I already have instead of always criticizing and wishing for more every time I get an ounce of something good.

I was about to open a new topic about how I love when each dj comes on back to back and they all seem to want to go more uptempo these days (well, on KZON mostly... but it would be different if they all end up playing the same song every hour). I usually enjoy B96 mixes - only as long as they don't get stuck on the Baltimore Club sound. Sometimes overdoses of Baltimore Club Music beats can get a bit messy, especially if thrown in with regular house and other things like original versions of "right round", "womanizer", "sugar", "keeps getting better", "poker face"... all mixed up together. When I get my laptop, I should have more time to listen to whatever I want, whenever I wish.

I'm still waiting to hear Kelly Rowland and David Guetta here... Hopefully SOMEBODY will do it! I must say though that when I put it in my Freeflow Rhythm Show 7, the song did kind of stand out, so I don't know how much it will fit in rhythmic radio.. but then again, remember what I said about "right round", "if you seek Amy", "calle ocho", and "poker face". I guess when it comes to the Kelly and David song making it to radio in Phoenix, I'll just................... prepare for the worst and hope for the best!

It would be very funny if KVIB picks it up.......
But then again, KZZP picked Craig David when KVIB just ignored it, so..... who knows.

Well so far,, No Dance on B-96 tonight... I know im only 25 minutes into it,, I pretty sure they will play more dance later... Im just gonna watch some TV and keep the radio up loud enough to detect anything electro-Uptempo,,, or House,,,,, Anything but this boring R&B mix,,, not even Hip Hop they are spinning now... They are playing the worst mix of Poker Face ive ever heard..... Sounds like Piano Jazz....

Well its now midnight,, the Electro house has started with DJ Spin.... Alex peace Assured us that tonights mix will be a balanced mix of House, Hip hop, and Mashups...

Well, they just now started mixing here, and as usual, I just did a station check up and so far Kiss FM is the closest at beginning to touch on dance. They are currently playing... Ah, um, of course! Well, I don't even want to say - I should give that girl's name a rest for a moment. Power and JamZ are starting off with their usual hip hop, but I know JamZ probably has some stuff behind the curtains that the audience doesn't see coming yet. We have six more hours of JamZ mixes. Maybe no deep house, but at least they do make it sound like a rhythmic party station, and not just boring club dance with bad timing and always trying to throw in "temperature" by Sean Paul or "the way you move" by Outkast to take up time before slowing back down.

92.7 / 99.3 The Beat is also mixing... and I have a feeling something may happen (in terms of uptempo style) soon.

KMVA seems to be in the lead at being the first to play dance in the mix, but they have an unfair advantage of starting an hour earlier than everyone else, so chances are this high that would happen. It's the typical pop dance remixes of "I kissed a girl" and "Caribbean Queen" and stuff similar to that. KAJM always has some old school breakbeat, dance, booty bass, and freestyle at certain points within their mixes.

KVIB will start soon...

And now for the second half of the first hour;
there goes Power KKFR with the Crookers remix of "day'n' nite"...
there goes Kiss KZZP kicking off with "in the ayer" by Flo Rida...
there goes JamZ KZON with "Poker Face"...
and there's Mega KAJM with "don't stop the rock" by Freestyle...
then of course, Movin with the original edit of "damaged" by Danity Kane.

Oh well...

Kiss ended up playing "the way you move" and KKFR flipped back to hip hop right after I posted the last post! But KZZP is just getting busy with it right now. The Outkast really fit in, especially with the way it was done.

Kiss is on "day 'n' nite" remix while JamZ is at the original version of "day 'n' nite". KMVA is on "whoop there it is", which shows they had sped up a bit from the Danity Kane song, and KAJM is on "push it" by Salt N Peppa going into "dreaming of love" by Stevie B.

Hmmm... B-96 is now airing the same repeat sets it aired last night, but at the opposite times... I guess I cant complain,,, The first hour was totally different, at least they are still playing Dance,, mostly electro and some tribal and a Chicago hard house mix of Boom Boom pow, which was surprisingly good quality.. I dont think most people notice that its the same mixes, cause aside from me, I doubt many people where parked on B-96 all night long hearing every single set..... The average listener probably tuned in between 15 to 30 minutes last night.

KNRJ 92.7 / 99.3 just did a booty bass set.

KZON is still on hip hop,

KKFR Power did do some uptempo hit songs before going back to Soulja Boy,

KZZP was doing some rhythmic top 40 pop hits.. but they are playing Black Eyed Peas ft Fatman Scoop now, and are getting into Dj Class and some rhythmic bass and breaks remixes of top 40 hits.

KVIB is currently playing "electro movimiento" by Calle 13m, and previously played "let it rock".

KMVA ...well, at least they do some uptempo stuff too from time to time, so if they are around, at least they are contributing to the uptempo dance sound game. They added "day 'n' nite" crookers mix in regular rotation, by the way, and also cannot reject the fact that certain songs they must play because they are hits, so there is much more than just Vengaboys playing with a house style beat now.

It does sound like a lot, but it's not really all as exciting as it seems when you really think about it because most people are not flipping around to see who is playing dance. But the good thing is that no matter where you go on the rhythmic or top 40 sound side of things, you will be fed some dance styled or influenced stuff. The more stations you have putting it in people's faces, the more people will be willing to accept it because you know the psychology of people's minds "well, it must be hot right now, and everybody else is doing it, so even if I don't like it, I should..." Actually - that's kind of old school style thinking now. We're dealing with another generation and a new time. I have to get my mind used to the fact that it's no longer how it used to be.
