Nice of the affiliate representatives from other nets to tell us. What is the clouds next move?
I guess being anonymous is something you don't understand. If you say a program is ending, I think you have to post some additional info. What's the source? You say something about reps from "other nets" told you. What does that mean? And what the heck does "What is the clouds next move?" mean?
If you're going to post something, it should be in language we all understand. (Yeah, I figured out cloud means "Cumulus." But I'm in the industry and it took me a few minutes to discern that. Cloud's should have an apostrophe.) Negative news needs some sort of attribution.
So sorry but I work In this business and format. His show is universally hated. Hated by programmers, listeners and clients.I also take exception to the hit-and-run description of the show as "awful." It happens to be one of the few talk shows I enjoy these days so you might want to point out exactly what it is that bugs you -- that is, if you've taken some time to actually listen to the show.
Maybe you just don't like Geraldo -- I didn't particularly either but I listened for more than a few minuters and found that he actually does a good radio show. I'm told the ratings aren't good but there can be many reasons for that.
What I like about the show:
- good pace
- good variety of topics, not just politics
- good guests
- good balance of guests and listener phone calls
- Geraldo dosen't "lecture" or take himself too seriously
- he's a good interviewer
- his interaction with Noam Layden is friendly and fun
- he has plenty of life experience (much of it as a reporter) which adds depth to his discussion of current topics
- he's good at commercial delivery which should be important to advertisers
Your turn.

"I'm told the ratings aren't good". Correct. That is why shows get cancelled.
Just like to point out that the topic of this thread has nothing to do with opinion about the show quality.
Unique take. Talk radio sucks and is irrelevant but we still obsess over it.I have to laugh. Geraldo is a VERY interesting guy with a very colorful background. It seems though, that whenever I hear a show that is interesting and NOT the usual, boring, predictable, political partisan rhetoric, it ends or is banished from terrestrial talkradio.
The skewing of the format over the last 20 years has left talkradio with an audience consisting mostly of a, extreme mentality that needs to be pandered to, and is increasingly unappealing to advertisers.
Talkradio's increasing irrelevance is well earned.
I listed 9 things I like about the show ... you guys can't come up with a single reason you think it's crap?
The good ol days were never that good.Maybe because some of us used to like it, or see what it could be/do better.
Read the original post.I enjoy Geraldo's show and agree with Wadio's comments. Where did this rumor come from? Nothing on the New York Radio Message Board or other New York radio forums.
The listeners hate it.
The advertisers hate it. I have had more say, "don't run my ads during Geraldo" than Rush.
He uses Noam Layden as a crutch.
He has never met a NYC story he won't obsess over.
He has never met a disgraced NYC politician he won't make excuses for.
He's wishy washy.
He's worse than Huckabee.
He's fake.
He hates his audience.
That's enough to be thrilled he's leaving.
I can't believe this particular talk show is that polarizing. It doesn't make sense. The listeners and advertisers "hate" it? He "hates" his audience? Come on, you're not inside anyone's head.
"He's fake?" Again, you're ascribing something to someone whose head you are not inside.
"He has never met a disgraced NYC politician he won't make excuses for." Ahhh, now we're getting somewhere. Perhaps Geraldo isn't conservative enough for you? Well that has nothing to do with the quality of his show.
"He uses Noam Layden as a crutch." And Howard doesn't use Robin as a crutch? We can't have that!
You apparently don't like Geraldo -- that's obvious -- but you're making a weak case to try to prove that his talk radio show is "awful."
You don't care about what is successful because you don't like the successful shows. Therefore, Geraldo's horrible failure of a show should be praised.Don't mistake what a good show is, for one that is liked and accepted by today's core talkradio audience. If you're a reasonable, normal person, Geraldo's show was good. if you enjoy hearing Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin et al from one end of the day to the other, than Geraldo is awful.
If I were Geraldo, I'd take it as a compliment.
