The end of the Sports Stars

Once again the leadership of Clear Channel Utica has made a critical mistake that spells the end for the Sports Stars. In January they git rid of Mean Gene the Program Director and turn it over to a guy with no programming and immaging skills what so ever, in other words, a rank amateur. Now in one of the greatest blunders in market history, this pathetic GM fires Fred Miller, the co-host and most importantly, the Sales Manager of the station. Any one with access to the Miller Kaplin reports can see that the Sports Starts was beating the River, and Close to beating Kiss and Mix each and every month! What about the underachieving Sales Managers of those stations. NOPE, not at CC Utica.
Everyone with passion for their job, anyone who puts in the time above and beyond the call of duty, those are the ones chopped from the every shrinking budgets of CC Utica. The big question now isn't IF they turn off or sell the stations, it's WHEN. Adam the bull better have his man servent get that resume ready because he's gonna need it. Now they will tell Adam they plan to have a crack staff sell the Sports Stars but who are we kidding. People Loved Fred, he was the one who put Local Sports back on the map in Utica-Rome. I am afraid there is no love there for Adam, sorry bud. PLUS if this was a budget cut, LOOK out everybody for the major blood letting that is headed CC's way. How much longer can they afford Kookenbacker, who is now just an overpaid board op for Bob and Tom. How much does Linda Rae make. And how can we forget about Tom Starr, brought back from his 1980's time warp to save (ha ha) WOUR and get the River off the ground. And Memo to all WOUR staffers, is a "Jack" in your future?? If mismanagement where an olympic sport, there would be gold medals everywhere in that building.

Hey, lets cronical Brian Delaney's success. Back in the 80's he was the guy who took over KG-104, A big market player at the time. In a matter of a year the station was in the toilet, it had to be sold.

In truth, his job a CC has been his longest ever, he lasted no more than a year anywhere he's worked.

Other success's. Has taken former number one market leader WOUR and made it a joke. Took Kiss-FM made it a bigger joke. (93.5) It's was WARM, then after about 50 format tweeks, it was KOOL, then after 25 format tweeks, it has become the River. Keep tweeken BD, you'll get more than a 4.0 some day.

Other success's. Oh ya, member of the Genesis Group. What he hell have they done. Sit around having meetings to come up with the "DID YOU KNOW" campaign.
DID YOU KNOW, CC UTICA IS LOSING HUGE SUMS OF MONEY
DID YOU KNOW, CC UTICA CAN'T KEEP SALES PEOPLE FOR 2 MONTHS
DID YOU KNOW, THAT MORAL AT CC UTICA IS LOWER THAN A SNAILS ASS
DID YOU KNOW, THERE IS ZERO MONEY FOR PROMOTIONS.
DID YOU KNOW, THAT BRIAN'S BIG IDEA TO MAKE MONEY HAVE INCLUDED, PUTTING A CHRISTMAS TREE FARM ON SMITH HILL NEXT TO WOUR'S TOWER.
DID YOU KNOW, THAT BRIAN'S OTHER BIG IDEA TO MAKE MONEY WAS TO PUT WINDMILLS ON SMITH HILL NEXT TO WOUR'S TOWER.
DID YOU KNOW EVERY IDEA BRIAN DELANEY HAS HAD HAS BEEN A BAD ONE.
DID YOU KNOW, HE AS TURNED THE SPORTS STARS OVER TO THE LAME ADAM THE BULL AND HIS MAN SERVENT.
DID YOU KNOW (OR THIS ONE'S IS A DO YOU REMEMBER) THE AUCTION SHOW WITH HANK BROWN THAT LASTED ONE DAY. I HEARD THEY HAD TO EAT A LOT OF TRADE DOLLARS WITH THAT MESS.

So Please, I would love to hear all about Mr. Delaney's success's.

Re: Brian Delaney

word on the streets of Utica is that CC has put a call in to Fat Frank from 107, for he and Gary to bring the big show over. great move on BD part really, take away the only thing galaxy has in utica, FF already does a really good and funny sports show on monday nights, and is anybody in Utica a better salesman than FF.. Fred is a good guy, but he puts crack addicts to sleep. great move for cc, sneaky but a great move.

You bring up some interesting points for a twit. What makes you think that they are "losing huge sums of money".Explain.
At least Delaney is an honest ,straightlaced guy.

Typical, when there is no evidence of success, you stoop to name calling.
It is a known fact that they have thrown the budget forcasts out the window for 2005. It's get has much as you can and spend as little as possible.

Now along with waiting for the success stories, we need to hear how he is honest and straightlaced. I know for a fact, that he honestly told Stew Schantz that his job was safe about one month before he fired him. SO HONEST.
He should run for political office, maybe John "freddo" Dodi, can be his campaign advisor.

And are they going to have Hank Brown do sport updates? They better reinforce the floor on Genesee street or someone on the 4th floor is going to killed with Adam "i'm on weight watchers" the Bull, and Frank McBride in the same studio.
You can hire all the people you want, you gotta have a compitant sales staff to sell it. And Fred was that. I'm sure the gang at WOUR will welcome Frank into he building with open arms. What a pure and simple joke.

Gosh, I wonder who this is?

Heh.

"Git rid"? "Immaging'?

I know it's not considered polite to judge others by their spelling, but really. How can anyone take you seriously when you're writing at the sixth-grade level?

That said, it's not like a total "amateur" could do a worse job than the previous occupant of the position. He certainly generated some big numbers, eh?

> Now in
> one of the greatest blunders in market history, this

Don't get me wrong, since Fred happens to be one of the very few people in broadcasting I respect, but "greatest blunders"? A land war in Asia is a blunder. Spilling a vial of avian flu virus is a blunder. This? I think you're vastly over-estimating the importance of the Sports Stars as well as the market as a whole. I'll grant that the stations are doing much better than they were a year ago, but the previous PD didn't set the bar very high.

> Any one with
> access to the Miller Kaplin reports can see that the Sports

And, of course, revenue equals profit!

If that were true you wouldn't be reduced to running a paper route.

> What about the underachieving
> Sales Managers of those stations. NOPE, not at CC Utica.

Wow. You're just hell-bent for destruction, aren't you? You would think someone fired from every single broadcasting gig they'd ever had would have learned better by now.

Not that anyone is taking you seriously, anyway. When a guy pushing 50 is reduced to delivering newspapers, and doing part-time sidekick work for a kid half his age, it's a pretty good sign he doesn't even take himself seriously. Not that you fit that description, course. Just sayin'.

> The big question now isn't IF they turn off or sell the
> stations, it's WHEN.

Give credit where credit is due. It wasn't that long ago that the stations WERE constantly off the air because the man in charge didn't have a clue how to use dem new-fangled computer thingies. I understand that problem was finally solved back in January, but I could be wrong.

Not to digress, but as long as we're discussing computer literacy...I heard a story, unrelated to the subject at hand mind you, that there was this guy that got fired, right? And about an hour after he was escorted out of the building he was still fuming, right? So he decided to fire up the ol' remote desktop and wreak havoc with his old station's automation system, right? Except it never occured to him that something like that could be traced back to him, right? Until he gets a call asking him to please stop, passwords are changed, account has been deleted, he's just embarrassing himself, kthnxbye.

> Adam the bull better have his man
> servent get that resume ready because he's gonna need it.

Speaking of resumes, you should see the one they have framed at CC. It's from some guy that used to work there that was begging for another chance. Sadly, he wasn't right for the job because of his weak computer and spelling skills.

BTW, its servant, with an "a".

> Now they will tell Adam they plan to have a crack staff sell
> the Sports Stars but who are we kidding. People Loved Fred,
> he was the one who put Local Sports back on the map in

People do indeed have a great deal of respect for Fred, and I'm one of them. I suspect he'll be back in the business without much delay.

> I am afraid there is no love there for Adam,
> sorry bud.

Well, compared to the guy he replaced there's a veritable cult for Adam.

> PLUS if this was a budget cut, LOOK out
> everybody for the major blood letting that is headed CC's

It's even worse than you think. They're paying an intern to do the actual board op work while she feeds grapes to him. Then he spends most of the afternoon siring more half-wit, inbred, illegitimate children.

Oh, wait. I got him confused with someone else. Speaking of which, how is your baby's momma doin'? Must be tough supporting all those offspring on the income from a paper route, but what do I know?

> How much
> does Linda Rae make.

Considerably more than someone delivering copies of the O-D for a living. He he.

> If mismanagement

That means so much coming from a paperboy.

Your friend forever,
Biggus Dickus

I heard this funny story...

> Now along with waiting for the success stories, we need to
> hear how he is honest and straightlaced. I know for a fact,
> that he honestly told Stew Schantz that his job was safe
> about one month before he fired him. SO HONEST.

Which reminds me of a funny story. I heard about this guy that was doing everything in his power to get rid of a PD he didn't like, to the point that he was sending emails around talking about how he had the GM wrapped around his finger and it was just a matter of time till the guy he hated was fired. Except he forgot to change the "Reply To" field in one of his emails and accidentally emailed one of his rants, filled with colorful and wonderfully vulgar descriptions of his nefarious activities, to that very GM.

So about a month later the PD he's worked so long to get fired actually *does* get fired. He can't contain himself, so he runs to his office to send out a gloating email about his stunning success. He hits "Send" and gets a "User Not Recognized" message and starts going off on a tirade about his crappy computer...until someone explains to him that it's not the computer that screwed up. Here's your box, clean out your desk, kthnxbye.

Man, I just about bust a gut when I heard that.

> He should run for political office, maybe John "freddo"
> Dodi, can be his campaign advisor.

Fun Fact: Dodi is now getting more airtime than you.

Ha.

Ha ha.

Bwahahahahahahahahaha!

You beautiful snowflake!

> So Please, I would love to hear all about Mr. Delaney's

I'd rather hear what it's like to be a paperboy in your 40's, 'cause I like to stay in touch with the common man. I learned that from my hero Ryno.

Your friend forever,
Biggus Dickus

Folks I don't usually read boards like this one but I heard my name is being tossed around in several posts. Please do me a favor! Change the topic and keep me out of this. This forum is used by men who don't even post their e-mail addresses for people to see. Opinions are like assholes and in the radio business in Central New York there are thousands of them. As far as the Sports Stars goes,my three years there were enjoyable ones.We did alot of good things for local sports and the coaches and athletes who are involved. That's all I really cared about. Your thoughts on what I did do not matter to me. Please post about other subjects or leave my name (Fred Miller)out! To all of you who posted (Biggus Dickus, Toe Jam, Commuter, Crabs)about me good luck in the future and remember if you were all such hot shot radio stars you would be working in New York city not f'ing Utica or Syracuse or where ever you work or hide in forums like this. Please all of you move on and good luck. Good luck to you, me ,and Clear Channel Utica Employees and who ever runs the Sports Stars or runs it into the ground ..whatever happens. I have moved on and hope you all can as well. First and last post! Thanks for nothing girls!

Christmas tree farm? If that's true, I have to agree that's pretty bad. But it's kind of hard to take someone seriously when they can't spell and they use caps lock so excessively.

First off, at least you know the poster went to through the Utica city school system. Also, I hear the talk is getting more intense between Fat Frank and Brian, a call has been put out to find schantz' old heavy duty re-enforced chair. Will Krause put up with having a bigger dog in the building?
