THE FAMOUS WESTFORD PIRATE ON 87.9 IN THE 1990s

How many remember the Westford pirate who used to broadcast on 87.9 from Westford Center, Massachusetts in the 1990s?

He used to broadcast endless music, mostly new age stuff, 24/7...no talk whatsoever. His signal REALLY got out there...heard it out near Fitchburg easily.

I actually found out where his transmitter was...at a huge old-style million-dollar home at 7 Graniteville Road in Westford. A FM antenna on the roof was easily seen from the street. An employee of the Radio Shack store in town told me that the guy who ran the station, who he said was named Mike, would often come into his store and told him of his setup. What was very interesting is that Mike did not live at the Graniteville Road home, but rather at a home in the next town of Groton. He somehow got the audio to the Westford property, which was supposedly owned at the time by a relative. The house has since been sold, and the antenna went away. Of course, so did the Westford pirate.

I heard rumors that he was shut down by the F.C.C., but have never been able to verify this. Anyone know more ofthe story of this long-time pirate?

I do remember hearing this pirate only twice when I lived in Chelmsford back in 1999. It was the only time since then I have heard it and figured it probably got shut down but who knows.
