THE FARTHEST STATION I'VE EVER HEARD HAS BEEN BROKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! READ NOW!

Yes, it has!!!!!!!

I'm from Bothell, WA.

Tonight, on 1610, I picked up this HEART STOPPER

The Carribbean Beacon from Anguilla.
            :) :) :) :) 8)

I heard Dr. Gene Scott's voice, not good reception but I could hear him in the TIS muck. Also heard short blips of Melissa Scott too!!

I DON'T EVEN BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Distance-around 4000 miles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!! YEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HAW!!!! :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Now, let's hear audio from 1134 Croatia and I will be celebrating with confetti in my house!!!!!!

YES!!!

Oops, wrote Caribbean wrong

Question: How can skywave cross 3000 miles of land and 1000 water, to reach here. I ACTUALLY HEARD IT!!

Good catch, but you really need to cut back on the smileys. And the caffeine.

Crain, that would be an awesome catch if confirmed - congrats!

The only suggestion I'd like to make is to try and combine these catches into one thread when possible. That might save you some of the abuse you're seeing above and will clean up this board a bit (which is filling up with your individual catches). Thanks.

OK, thank you.

Also, another note: It was NOT a SW hetrodyne. It was the real thing, with TIS channels in the muck under it. Not good reception, needed headphones to ID it.

upstate29651 (Guru),

I'm hearing carriers on 675, 1134 and 1575, but no IDs, so those trans-atlantic stations are not going to be counted yet. 675 would be Italy ??? 1134 would be HRV Croatia, and 1575 Radio Farda. If I get an ID or a language, that would shatter the Caribbean Beacon again, and be the farthest stations I've ever heard on AM.

Sorry guys about all the smileys...too excited :) ;)

That's one amazing catch, crainbebo! How could you top that one?

I don't think I've ever heard the Caribbean beacon on 1610 where I am.

On 1610, I get the parking and information broadcast for Tampa International Airport.

;D

Back in the mid-60's I used to pick up San Francisco stations regularly from my ship off the coast of Vietnam. And this is also when we could not raise Japan, Guam or the Philippines on 1KW SSB.

Wow! Pretty goog catch! I received Croatia and New Zealand just 30 minutes ago

I'm just using a Grundig G5 with the internal ferrite bar antenna. I'm not using a SINGLE external antenna, which makes it more rarer

200,000 watts doesn't hurt!

Umm, I kinda doubt it they are @200kW, I believe the most power they ever had was 40kW. Reports on DXLD.org, WRTH.com, etc. estimate TPO at 25kW, as of last summer. The Caribbean Beacon has not been received here in Northern Illinois too well in years on 1610. I usually get Toronto best on 1610.

It's entirely possible that the Caribbean Beacon has gone to 200kW, but it hasn't sounded like 200kW here. As the saying goes, "Your Results May Vary"

Offhand I think that's really pushing it, although I did see a report that they had raised their power to 25kW sometime last year. That's probably doable, although here in Texas I usually don't hear them like in the old days. In fact it's either sporadic TIS stations or nothing at all here on 1610.

Me too, duking it out with Montreal's CPAM...otherwise I could give Anguilla a listen.

Amazing catch, crainy. And Radio Farda is do-able, as it's been heard in your neck of the woods.
