The Fate of WMKS 105.7 Kiss FM

OK ...They are approaching the 3 year mark in July .... they haven't made much impact in the ratings and revenue arena ..... It could be safe to assume that the syndication contracts will be expiring at the 3 year mark .... now the air staff has been let go .... what is the speculation for WMKS .... will they take on a complete syndicated format or change format. A format change makes sense except for the economics .... I don't see CC spending any $$ to launch a new format when the past efforts have failed. What do you think will happen?

Just a guess...Que Pasa LMA.

Economics justify it. CC is looking for $$$, QP is looking to regain audience lost to FM. QP's Regional Mexican format will not steal shares from CC's La Preciosa, in fact their coverage areas don't overlap totally. And Hispanic seems to be the only growth area left in radio.

I don't think the active rock afficianados stand a chance with this one. CC is sour on oldies, so I don't think it will go there. That only leaves Hispanic or some form of Religious for the consideration.

We will see what happens.

Later . . . .

It would be great to have a Gospel station on the FM dial in Greensboro. I think it would be successful with more music and less religious programs (church services, etc), The AM stations already program the services and it would be great to be able to drive around the Triad and just listen to good Christian music.

Most likely no format change, just more canned programming, either satellite, or vt's. Should have stayed in Statesville, where it did make money. But, gotta get rid of staff, that's the CC way.......cut costs..........

News/Talk w/ all syndicated crap. Glen Beck's paranoia needs to be heard in the Triad.

If WFMX was still around, it'd be just as gutted as the other CC properties. Maybe it's good that great station had aquick ending instead of bleeding slowly

My guess is a flip to Top 40 to try and take on KZL, with everything VT'd from the "best of the best" or whatever they're calling it. It'll have logs done centrally, and voice tracked by people around the country.

Just a guess though.

I still think they shouldn't have killed 'FMX like they did, but if they were going to change the format, they should have gone R/AC like 'KSL is now. I don't know if the format would work now, considering what I'm hearing about 93.9, but in '06 when CC was changing all their stations it was the craze...

Not really. But as long as I have WIST I'll be fine. I just wish Paul Harvey had been easier to listen to. Mike Huckabee is okay as a replacement. But I'd still like to hear reruns of "The Rest of the Story"--mainly from those nights when WFMX was doing NASCAR. What really gets me is the show aired at 6:30; they couldn't have started five minutes early when NASCAR was at 6:30???

I have to say this station sometimes has some good music at night. Especially on weekends.

Good guess! Makes a lot of sense. CC has never had any success at going up against Entercom's Urban powerhouses. They should give it up and go up against KZL. The only problems I can see is that so many 18-34's are doing the I-pod thing, so can they really get the ratings. Also, they won't want anything that could cannibalize WMAG. But, they should be able to control that. I say it's worth a shot and I bet that's exactly what they do.
